See the NUMEROUS threads on this in the HPF2 forum and elsewhere. If you still believe you should kill the WU after looking at those, use the Abort button on the Tasks tab of BOINC Manager to kill it.

Hi Polaray,
I agree with you, it seems to be stuck after 17 hours. So bring up BOINC Manager, choose the TASKS tab, click on your HPF2 unit to select it, and then click on Abort. It can take many hours to get to a check point that increments the progress indicator, but you have been running too long, so assume that something has gone wrong. Lawrence |

Thanks lawrencehardin ...I will abort.
Is it customary for messages in bonic to only show the time stamp from when you log on. This is on one of my winxp pc's. This is running faah. The other winxp pc shows 2 days of messages. |

Hi polaray,
----------------------------------------Yes, the BOINC Manager only shows a temporary message log. It resets when you reboot. I have not checked out all the .txt files in the BOINC subdirectory. Maybe there is a more persistent log file there. Lawrence Added: look at stdoutdae.txt It seems to be what you want. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 7, 2006 3:20:46 AM] |

Polaray,
----------------------------------------to fill in Lawrences indication of a permanent log its stdoutdae.txt. I have not found a setting as to what the size is it is allowed to grow to, but mine is 1.6mb and holds all logs entries since i switched from UD to BOINC on April 17, 2006. The file is in the BOINC program dir. There are a few more little log files there like stderrgui.txt and stderrdae.txt which catch other error messages. These logs have been referenced elsewhere in posts on this forum. ciao

Im having to babysit my machines this week, so I dont waste over 100 hours on 1 unit 'cause it got stuck. I lost tons of points this weekend due to that :(

Hello ParoxysM,
I have a similar problem. But rather than get out of my chair, I intend to look at my UD client once a day using My Grid - Device Manager - Device Statistics. This will catch hanging UD work units. For BOINC I would have to look at the Results page to see if I were returning units or not. Lawrence |

Hi ParoxysM,
----------------------------------------I'm like Lawrence an armchair man when it comes to managing crunchers, and boy wait until i got the wified laptop in.....it will be from anywhere there's a hotspot. Here's a quick link to all the dailies, by device. Device Stats as per 6 hourly update for UD & BOINC Devices If you install BOINCview (add-on to be had at the official BOINC website), you can watch any machine you set up permissions on from a single pc and see how each progresses, to include the momentary GFlops. Any support here for that would be strictly from the hobby horse department as WCG is not accountable for these. PS, we understand your Babvsitting....momentarily with some child deceases left to cure in HPF2, there seems to be no telling when it's go to hang. Letting is sit in hung up for a day is no go for many amongst us.

Will Polaray get credit for the 17 hours of crunching if he aborts? I'm curious since I have 3 pc's that have 0% and have been running for 2 and 3 days and I'd hope to get some kind of credit if I abort those stuck units.
