Afternoon All
I've been experiencing a number of crashes on most of workstations over the last month or so which I haven't been able to pin down to anything in particular. During that period, BOINC has been upgraded to 5.4.9 and the projects here have had a number of revision aswell, so I'm wondering who would like the stderrdae.txt error log? (I only crunch WCG units.) Thanks Slug Here is a snipet of the log that may help BOINC Windows Runtime Debugger Version 5.4.9LIST OF LOADED MODULES (There's quite a lot, so I didn't post them) *** UNHANDLED EXCEPTION **** |

Same error the second time happened to me after downloading tanpaku wus, something very bad with this version (5.4.9) but I have libcurl error logs. |

So if its happening with other projects, I guess it's probably BOINC rather than any of the work units distributed here.
Thanks rebirther |

Before hitting BOINC alarm bells, run a thorough ram test like memtest86. These science calculations are big ram consumers, thus when they grow they might hit on a bit in the higher regions not touched too often. Lawrence has posted a useful utility list recently in Problem PC

I'll give that a try, but it has been happening on 5 different types of workstation/servers with XP (Vista hasn't been a problem).
Thanks for the tip Slug |

I just got this same error December 6th (same offset address even) on a later BOINC client. Any update on what's going on? I've got plenty of dump to share, if needed.

Here's a little work in progress checklist, for which u are asked to complete the relevant parts (even if u already provided some items in your initial post):.
----------------------------------------0. Device / Computer ID... a 5 (soon 6) digit number found in message log. 1. BOiNC version. 2. Mode it is run in, client, service, screensaver. 3. Operating System. 4. Update level like SP2 5. Antivirus program and version 6. Software Firewall and version 7. Spam filter if any and version 8. CPU brand, type, speed. 9. Ram Size. 10. Video card and status of drivers. 11. What browser IE7, IE6 (these are OS integrated for Windows) 12. Any other u feel relevant 13. Cuts and past of the quorum detail for the problem work unit(s). 14. Relevant portions of messages / error logs. If a work unit crashes, one of the first ports of call is the Result Status page, Work Unit Detail (point 13), to see if others turned in the WU and if they were successful. Vista was mentioned... does anyone have a BOiNC dev confirmation that that OS has been okayed? Update: The exact error has been reported at BOiNC dev forum a number of times without a clearcut answer.

One more piece of info: What project was running when it crashed?

This isn't an error in the project applications, but in the BOINC core client itself. It always seems to happen when the client is downloading a file from a project server. No one started seeing the crashes until about 7th November (but the significance of that date is unknown - it's a whole week before the November Windows Updates went out).
There are many people seeing the same crashes at the same code addresses who are crunching different projects. There's a long thread about it over at the BOINC Message Boards here. For anyone wondering if upgrading the BOINC client will help, it won't. The same crashes have been seen on 5.4.*, 5.6.*, 5.7.* and 5.8.0. |
