I added the new throttle control because I wanted to keep my CPU usage for all projects around 90% but I still show the Agent running 45% to 50%. I downloaded the file no problem ran the file with the new high value for CPU usage of 90% but I still show CPU usage around 45 to 50%. I guess my question is will the CPU usage go up when I get a new work unit or should it have increased during the current WU.
Thanks for you help, Warren |

Simple question: Can you provide details of your machine.....dual core CPU maybe? Then, 50% is maximum you can achieve with UD agent which is 100% of 1 core. See BOINC threads as how to use 2 or 4 cores simultaneously.
----------------------------------------Reference your "....all projects....", if you run multiple Grid like applications simultaneosly all at lowest priority, then these will split up the idle ticks 50/50 or 33/33/33....... effectively 90% then becomes 45% etc.

Thanks for the info. I do have a P4 duel core processor with 1G of ram. It makes sense that it would show up as 50% since WCG doesn't utilize the second core. Thanks for you help.

True, the UD interface doesn't run on the 2nd dual core.
----------------------------------------A hyperthreaded Intel machine may already be doing all it can do and show "50%". That kind of machine only has one floating point unit and two virtual cores. If it *IS* a dual core machine like an AMD X2, the BOINC interface can take advantage of both cores simultaneously.

Thanks for the info I do have a Intel dual core processor not a HTT processor. Although the UD client doesn't support multiple WUs to be processed at the same time I prefer the UD client over BOINC. I like the user interface better. I guess I like the eye candy the UD provides. Thanks for your help - Warren |
