Is the UD running at 95-99% before you start BOINC? If not then you might have one of those problem HPF2 work units. If it's at 95-99% before starting BOINC then you have a different problem. I just want to confirm that UD is running properly before BOINC starts so you get the right advice. Also, please supply the following info for your computer: operating system CPU brand and model CPU speed RAM size disk size, free disk space, page file (virtual memory) size Yes, the UD runs at 98-99% before I start BOINC. I'm using Windows XP. I'm not sure about the CPU brand and model, but I have a 6-month old HP Pavilion a1219h computer. The CPU speed is 3.06 GHZ. It has 1 GB of RAM. It has a 160 GB disk (main) but only reports 141 GB. It shows 126 GB free. I'm not sure where to find the page file size. If it is under the Performance tab of the Windows Task Manager for Kernal it says 59150 K. On the graph it says about 425 MB being used. This is with Boinc turned off and UD running. Jim |

Also, if I turn on BOINC and the UD Agent stops (the line graphs disappear) when I turn off BOINC the UD Agent will pick up about where it left off even if the line grids are half way across. Jim |

Hi jvsturm, Actually, BOINC and UD will always be programmed to run at low priority so that people who use their computers for other tasks will not notice BOINC or UD. That will never change. I believe what you are seeing is due to the fact that they throttled the UD agent back to 60% when they started HPF2. You can raise it back to 100% if you want. There are threads in the Member News section that describe how to do that. Finally, running BOINC and UD at the same time on 1 machine is not a "bad thing" but really there is no reason to do it. It won't get any more work done in the end. Why not just run BOINC alone? Thanks. I'll look for the threads in the Member News section. Actually, the reason for running both has more to do with my son than anything else. When he gets on the 'net' he can suspend BOINC, leaving UD Agent running without any noticeable degraditation in performance and it is simple for him to do. Then when he's finished, he just turns BOINC back on. Pretty much a habit now and some work is still getting performed. I appreciate all the help you've given me. Jim I found the link and ran it setting the UD Agent to 100%. I still have the same problem though. As soon as I start the BOINC software, the UD agent stops. I check and the CPDN climate program is running at 99% and the HPF2 is at 0%. Did I do something wrong? Jim Hi jvsturm, I experienced the same problem as yours even setting the UD Agent to 100%. There is 0% progress on the UD agent after 24 hours. At last, what I did is to stop all the BOINC units and the UD Agent began to work and make progress. I just let it finished its work alone. After that, a new UD Agent WU was received and all back to normal i.e. both BOINC and US agent can run concurrently. But I don't know why. What I found from this is that if you want to run both UD and BOINC concurrently, you have to set the UD agent to over 75% otherwise all the resources will be eaten up by BOINC and the UD agent may not run at all. |

Except as an experiment, there is no reason to run both BOINC and UD on the same computer. BOINC can run multiple processes.

Jim,
Your computer has plenty enough power to run both UD and BOINC simultaneously but as Lawrence states above there really is no reason to do so. You can run Climate Prediction and HPF2 and other projects all on BOINC. I don't know why UD drops to 0 when BOINC starts up, it should not. But some problems just aren't worth fixing and maybe yours is one of those? You can do it all on BOINC and get just as much done. |

I've got an P4 2.53ghz, 1gb ddr-hyper-x HT machine and Threadmaster ** to tweak the CPU throttles of both UD + BOINC agents simultaneously. The thruput is nominally improved. Even when the combined throttle is set at 95%, where BOINC previously took it all. BOINC on its own on a HT machine does not run 2 crunches and not found a way, nor want to, to start it twice, logged on under 2 different users and create lots of duplicate processes.

I have WCG attached to BOINC now. One thing though (seems like I always got one, eh?) when I attached to BOINC and updated, it picked up my team ok but no points. Am I starting over once again as I did when I switched teams (from The Lost Boys.) Jim |

The points shown on the statistics tab in the BOINC Manager won't match the points on the website, or include your previous score.
I'm afraid you'll have to come here to check your score. |

Wildflowers' suggestion did not work for me so I guess I will uninstall the UD Agent. How do I check my score from "here"? Jim |
