Is Win98 still supported?

My win98 machine has had no progress since 6/22/2006. Has Windows 98 been unsupported on wcgrid????

Re: Is Win98 still supported?

Win98 should still be supported. I have one machine running it myself.

Keep minimum requirements of 250Mb memory and 550MHz speed for HPF2 and FAAH using the UD interface in mind. If your machine is below this, the BOINC interface can still crunch WCG projects.

Microsoft may make a decision this summer to move Win98 to non supported status, so some software products may follow suit.

BOINC can still support Win95 for general projects but the UD interface definitely does NOT.

If you are running a HPF2 workunit with version 5.06 of the program, freezing and non-progress were problems. No progress since 6/22 seems excessive. Even my 500MHz machine should be able to finish a workunit within 5 days.

The problems have been fixed and version 5.07 of HPF2 is available automatically on the next download. Considering that long amount of time with no progress, it might be worth aborting the workunit or resetting the project. FAAH has been running for quite a while with no problems like this.

Most likely, your machine has less than 250MB of ram which is required for the current running projects. We will be launching one or more projects which use less memory hopefully later this year.

Re: Is Win98 still supported?

That's true. My 128Mb win98 machine is out of the running. So, I'm gone. Have a good time with wcgrid.

Re: Is Win98 still supported?

It can still contribute to other things. PrimeGrid only needs something like 64Mb. On the other hand, more memory is cheap, cheap, cheap. Even my own Win98 machine has 512Mb on it.
