Maybe 2 birds in one stone.....if the minimum spec is not met.....,
----------------------------------------but, you confessed you like to needle me, alot ......if you dont meet the min.spec, the UD agent wont even bother downloading.... a supposition buona serata

I see in this parallel thread Didactylos interprets the recommended minimum to require 250 MB physical RAM. If he's correct then that explains why GSSNGC can't get work. I agree, we need one of the techs to clarify the RAM requirement.

My own slow computer is locked out because it is only a 500MHz and 550MHz is the minimum speed for FAAH and HPF2.
----------------------------------------I exited the UD/WCG interface I was using for HPF1. I downloaded BOINC and attached to one of the mathematical projects, www.primegrid.com. It has short workunits with a quorum=2. It seems to be happy with that and has resumed crunching for science. Perhaps WCG/UD or WCG/BOINC will have something for it later.

I, too have been locked out recently. Athlon XP1700 (1.5Ghz) running W2K SP4 with 256Meg of RAM, display set at 16-bit, 1024x768 (integrated graphics). The HDD partition that WCGrid is installed on has 6.2GB of free space (out of 7.8GB). The HPF1 program (that I have chosen in my profile) SUPPOSEDLY will run with only 120Meg of RAM. My System Parameters verifies that I have 224MB of RAM (256MB-32MB for the videocard). And I have a fixed-size paging file of 672MB on my OS' HDD (a separate drive partition from that running the WCGrid software). And communications are through a cable modem and router, so that's plenty fast enough.
This particular computer has been running workunits near continuously for at least 3 years, now a week or two ago, I get the "received 3369 of 3369 bytes, see cause.html" error message that leads nowhere. I have checked my firewall (even turning it off). That's not the issue. I've also gone through the "delete program and reinstall" routine several times- NOTHING WORKS. Clearly, something is wrong for so many people to be getting this error. It would be nice if USEFUL assistance was given by the support personnel. Being directed to a deadend URL is DEFINITELY of no help. Note:- I have 2 other computers that are running the Grid fine, but they are both Athlons with processors O/C'd to 2.2Ghz and running w/ 1GB of pc3200 or pc3500 RAM, each. |

The HPF1 project has finished. We are working on HPF2 now, which requires 250 MB of memory. This is all announced in the Member News forum, and featured on the WCG home page.
The "Agent Paused" url is working fine, and tells you to check the minimum requirements, and if that fails, it links you here, to the forums - where the announcements are. |

Didactylos,
I had been working on this same "agent paused" problem in the UD Windows agent support Forum, and I see the same problem in this Forum. I don't believe my problem was memory since I have 640 MB of RAM, nor speed since mine is 1.79 GHz, nor hard drive space since I have 24 GB available. Now I have an even greater problem. I removed and reloaded the grid program, as suggested my another forum participant, and now cannot even register on the Grid. Registration fails. I'm off the grid and can't seem to even get the software loaded and registered again...let alone deal with the "agent paused" problem! |

sanramonblondie, try migrating to BOINC. It's really no harder, but if anything goes wrong, we will be able to troubleshoot it in detail for you. It is hard to do this with UD, since it gives the same message no matter what goes wrong.
If you do persist with UD, remember to check the "Existing member" box when you register the agent, or it will fail (since the username already exists - it's yours!) |

Didactylos, I did as you suggested: migrate to BOINC. Held my breath, spread pixie dust over the keyboard, and said a prayer. It works just fine now! Thanks.
I thought I'd have to quite membership entirely and start fresh with a new ID/password - the works. Instead I thought I'd give BOINC a try. Erased every bit of UD on my machine that I could find, downloaded BOINC software and my machine took off! It's now happily crunching again. I KNEW the problem under UD wasn't memory or processor speed and reloading UD didn't work because I couldn't register after reloading, even telling the system I was an existing member. I'll never know what caused this problem, but after an entire week of being out of commission because of it, I'm back on with BOINC. |

SanramonBiondie, Welcome to the BOINC congregation of 16000 at WCG
---------------------------------------- If you happen to have a dual / quad core, you'd be able to crunch 2 / 3 / 4 WU's simultaneously, which is not possible with UD. Your speed of 1.79ghz though suggest you dont have such a chip in the bowels of your PC... ![]()

And I have a fixed-size paging file of 672MB on my OS' HDD (a separate drive partition from that running the WCGrid software). And communications are through a cable modem and router, so that's plenty fast enough. Five other solutions come to mind:This particular computer has been running workunits near continuously for at least 3 years, now a week or two ago, I get the "received 3369 of 3369 bytes, see cause.html" error message that leads nowhere. I have checked my firewall (even turning it off). That's not the issue. I've also gone through the "delete program and reinstall" routine several times- NOTHING WORKS. Note:- I have 2 other computers that are running the Grid fine, but they are both Athlons with processors O/C'd to 2.2Ghz and running w/ 1GB of pc3200 or pc3500 RAM, each. (1) get some more memory so you will be running with 512Mb, 768Mb, 1Gb, or something larger than 256Mb. (2) buy a graphics card to fit. These contain their own memory and override the integrated MOBO graphics. You get your full 256Mb back to use and the system might even run a bit faster. (3) both (1) and (2). (4) Other projects, especially the mathematical ones, have lesser requirements, so you may be able to feed one of the other BOINC projects to that computer to keep it busy in the meantime. PrimeGrid only requires a Pentium class computer with 64Mb. (5) Free solution - exit UD interface. Load BOINC. Attach to www.worldcommunitygrid.org It doesn't seem to care as much about the minimum requirements, since my 500MHz computer can crunch WCG again.
