Hello,
I shall have to give up my present machine for a new laptop. What ought I to do to ensure that everything's transferred properly ? Thank you. |

You're probably better off just downloading and reinstalling whichever agent you use rather than transferring. You'll get an additional device in your WCG device profile but that's not a problem.

From our Dutch Power Cow team thread I understand, that if you make a full copy of the BOINC program dir and its subs and move it over to the new machine, it should continue where you left off.....you'd have to manually recreate the shortcuts and set up one in your autostart directory.
----------------------------------------For the UD Agent, same same. Have moved my UD+UD_MON slots around manually without trouble, long as you tell it where to find the agent. Also, clean installed windows, then started UD from the program dir, which i'd left untouched....all hunky dory. Obviously, by that method, there are no registry keys, that would cause it to get listed in the application control panel for uninstall ![]() Hey, i'm living in the country which invented the spagetti western......be a man, get on your hoss and off into horizon at the music of ennio morricone ![]()

Sekerob is correct. The only problem with moving from one machine to another is if you let the old machine connect to the server. 2 machines with the same device ID number will cause problems. In that case, you need to reinstall to create a second unique device ID.

Yes, I was mistaken. I guess I was thinking of the problems that have been reported when moving a WU in progress from 1`computer to another.

Thank you, All . .... ![]() Aplogies, but I need to re-open. Realised later, I hadn't asked a couple of question.1. After moving to the new environment and getting a new device number, will the points be accumulated so far be assigned to the 2nd device or does one start from SameUserID + NewDevNum = 0 2. Do I need to specifically go somewhere and associate mu User ID with the new device number ? Thank you.. |

Hello my090007,
Just check the 'Previous Member' box when installing a new device and sign in with your member name and password. The new device will show up under your member name as device #2 and all points earned by your devices will belong to your member name. Each device has a unique Device ID and the points are assigned to that Device ID. Lawrence |

After you create the second device, you'll see both devices on your Device Manager page under My Grid on this website. After a few weeks of inactivity, the first device will seem to vanish. If you look near the top of that page you'll see 2 drop down menus that allow you to filter which devices you see. The default is to show only devices that have been active recently. You can show all your devices by making the appropriate selection from the drop down menus.

I have no experience with it, but guess in BOINC (I know for UD agent), the BOINC points will get summed in the project page under de member/id. True? In the Stats tab, you might/could see it per computer aka device. True?
