Re: WELCOME FROM SCIENCE TEAM AT NYU ... AND THANKS IN ADVANCE

There are a few corrections to be made in the shiny new documentation.

I'll add this to the list for our tireless website maintainers.

LOL, rbonneau, you need a good speel chocker.

The recruitment thread has spawned several excellent recruiting strategies, it's worth a close read. One of the better ideas (and it's been discussed more than a few times) is a massive campaign to put displays with free WCG install CDs in stores, post offices, banks and other public places where people stand in lineups waiting and looking around. It seems one of the major hurdles to free CD campaign is funding and organising it. IBM is the one who needs to organise it. They could also fund it or get funding from partners and other resources. IBM presses a lot of CDs and could do it very inexpensively. They can ship and warehouse and distribute efficiently. And a request from them to help fund a humanitarian effort carries a lot more weight in the boardroom than a request from any of us.

Still, the membership continues to grow at about 300 per day. In a year that will be ~1 million new members. I think WCG should concentrate on keeping those members and facilitating their volunteer effort. Sometimes they drop the ball. For example, launching HPF2 on a Friday was not wise because the grid techs are likely down to a skeleton weekend crew. A Monday launch would have been much more sensible as it's almost guaranteed there will be problems... and there have been.

Also, a newsletter or mass email to clearly and loudly announce the launch and the changes it brings would have been much more user friendly. One wonders how many members have simply deleted UD rather than scrounge through these forums for answers.

Friday wasn't the first choice of launch day, but it looks like a good number of WCG staff have kept an eye on things over the weekend. Got to applaud the dedication :-)

We've even had the project scientist dropping in again.
