Is there any way of knowing how close we all are to completing this proteome folding project? They said that it would take months, but is there any way of estimating what percentage has been completed?
I just think that would be cool to know, some kind of meter, like in charity drives. |

No, there is no information on that. Many Threads have brought up the subject. Welcome to the grid. <dataman>

This project could potentially go on for decades. If you know anything about the protein folding problem, it is extremeley difficult - probably more so than any other distributed computing project so far. It is difficult enough to sucessfully predict the native folding of a single protein, and given there are 25,000-30,000 genes (some of which code for multiple different proteins) in the human genome this could take a long long long long time. But then again they may not end up trying to do every protein.
----------------------------------------Cheer up we're in it for the long haul. P.S. This could be the most important computing problem in human history [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 1, 2004 7:49:53 PM] |
