ADD - attention deficit disorder
Hello, I'm ADD and started my treatment 1 year ago. I observed that there are a lot of research about this subject but there is not much things discovered. I'm also reading a lot about this disorder. There is in the World Community any kind of research about this? Is interesting to have something related to ADD? My doctor is, here is Brazil, the person who most study about ADD. I'm part of a study group and they are very criterions with the researches and the patients. Will be interesting for him to have access or to work together with the results of the WCGrid. Well, if is interesting or needs some information; fell free to contact me Thanks in advance. Carol PS. you also can contact me by carolmpneves@yahoo.com.br |

I have ADD too. I used to take ritalin, but my prescription kept running out and I kept forgetting to refill it (not kidding). It sucks, but I think the issue is less due to any single factor and more due to genetic variations. I found a really good link here -> ADD Info
It sucks, but I am not sure we could benefit from the WCG until they can find some protein or neurotransmitter that is the culprit. Right now it is treated like schizophrenia, where they basically try every drug they can think of and call it a "success" when you get some relief... Hi and thanks for the comments on ADD. I have a niece that has ADD. She's very interesting.
World Community Grid is a place where researchers can run their research for free. We don't actually have any research or researchers. We rely on World Community Grid members and scientists who are familiar with World Community Grid, to spread the word to scientists/researchers everywhere in the world. In you studies about ADD, if you come across any non-profit research organizations who are focused on ADD, send them an email and tell them there's free computing available for them at World Community Grid. All the have to do is go to this page: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/projects_showcase/viewSubmitAProposal.do read the rules and submit a proposal to us. That's all there's to it. Another option is to post something in the Human Proteome Folding (HPF) forum. HPF is all about the body and the impact of proteins, much of which is unknown. The results of the HPF project will soon be on the public domain and some scientist who is focused on ADD could leverage that information. Perhaps you could post a note to the HPF sicentist in that forum to ask him if he might know if results data from the HPF project could be useful for scientists working on ADD. If so, then you can make the ADD research people aware of this data, or even put them in touch with the HPF researcher. We're not exactly sure when the HPF results will go to the public domain. The scientist has written his first paper and submitted it for publication. Once it's accepted for publication, then the results database can go public. |

Hi, it's nice to see someone on the internet at least recognize ADHD. I'm sick of people saying that it is non existant. I know numerous people with it, and well, they can get very irritating at times when un-medicated.
----------------------------------------What are the problems with current meds? Becuase I'm sure they can be fixed. If my memory is correct... a new drug came out a while ago. Ok I googled it, and it's called atomoxetine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strattera There's some information about the new drug (brand name strattera) If you're looking for alternative treatment, or even a list of drugs used for ADHD, then go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ADHD. In terms of research, it's more so determining what neurotransmitters are related and how so. When this is fully discovered, then some better drugs may be produced. Examples are ... for schizophrenia, it hits dopamine, and stops the transmission (antagonises the post-synaptic cleft). Depression, serotonin, and sometimes norepinephrine, it increases availability through a heck of alot of ways. Typical ADHD drugs work in the opposite way the schizophrenic ones do, and it increases the transmission of dopamine (mostly, there are some strange drugs though that are different). Sleeping pills work on GABA. Researching ADHD would be somewhat harder too, since a lot of psychiatrists and psychologists don’t even believe the disorder exists. Or they blame it on things like too high sugar intake, or anxiety. - Jackson. -- This post has been edited for inappropriate language - nelsoc [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 22, 2006 1:08:14 PM] |
