Im running windows XP x64 with 4 processor cores, yet the program only uses 1. Any chance you can make this program multi-core aware?

You don't say which agent you are using. Are you using BOINC or UD (United Devices)? BOINC will use 4 processors, UD will use only 1.

Just to complement, if BOINC, you need to put that 4 into your BOINC profile / device manager on WCG.....if there is e.g. a 2, i was explained, it would only use 2. Also remember, that by default the 4 was in profile, which then suggests you have a UD agent.....In that case, BOINC is hi-ly recommended, much more efficient at crunching. Beyond that....its time to call Houston

Looks like 64-bit multiple cores aren't going away and changing WCG agent to autodetect and configure for multiple cores would be worth the investment long term.
IBM teamed up with Sony and Toshiba to produce "cell processor" technologies for the upcoming playstation 3 to released in late 2006. Future processors may go the way of cell processing which may include upto 256 cores on one CPU die by 2015! I plan on upgrading my dual core to quad core next year when AMD releases it. I would prefer software which will automatically known the number of cores I'm using and give me the option to use all of them by default. Here is the Cell Processor article by IBM for those interested in such technology. http://domino.research.ibm.com/comm/research.nsf/pages/r.arch.innovation.html |

Rbolo, s divulged, the default is 4 processors for BOINC profile, thus caters for quad "automatically". If a dual or single core layes contact, it would just ignore the higher number....the profile is downloaded each time a change is made, so how often would that happen
