Hi all,
I am new to this grid stuff, and this bit of feedback seems pretty trivial compared to some of the items being discussed, but... I have no idea what a docking energy is and I don't really care. I have no idea what the progress bar represents, and as to the bit of folded tape stuff it just looks ugly. I am sure that all this technobumf means something to lots of you, but is a pain in the arse to me. I am more than happy to make my computer idle time available to worthwhile causes. This is a good think to do, but I really don't want to have to put up with the unintelligable technobumf floating around my screen. Can I suggest that there are probably a lot of non technical users out there now who feel the same way. Can you either: a) give a choice of screensavers, maybe swimming goldfish?? I don't really care as long as it is not technobumf (and I won't object to a bit of discreet project advertising) or b) just don't provide a screensaver, just suck up my spare computer power, I will still get a warm inner glow from doing the right thing and I wont get annoyed by your technobumf. Your thoughts would be appreciated... |

Hello smcdonell,
All you have to put up with is the liitle WCG grid icon down in the System Tray on the bottom right, and you can change that to 'Always Hide' in the Start - Settings - Taskbar and Start Menu page. The screensaver is only used if you go to your device profile on the WCG website and choose the option 'Run only as screensaver'. The WCG UD client uses inter-process communications with a subroutine added to our screensavers if you choose that option. Which is why that option does not work with other screensavers. If you do not use it, just go to Start - Settings - Control Panel - Display and set whatever screensaver you like. A word of warning - the 3-D screensavers use a lot of CPU power. Please do not choose one of them (unless you really want to). My own choice is 'blank', which prevents burn-in on the screen and uses no cpu power. Also, I set the power-off to work only after (well - longer than a lunch break) hours, to prevent constant ON/OFF power cycles, which can shorten the life of the screen. So I use both blank and power, rather than just power-off. In the long run, it is cheaper than replacing the display. Any questions you would like to ask, now that you are in the Forum? Lawrence |
