Johnny Cool,
----------------------------------------It is very different from the way it was but it's working well, even better than before, and you will get the points eventually. I have unvalidated WUs going back 8 days never mind 5 days. I have 60 hours of crunching unvalidated never mind 30. All of us, not just you, are seeing a greater number of WUs awaiting validation and nobody seems to care except you. What you are seeing is perfectly normal under the new system. It is NOT due to a malfunction. Under the old scheme if the 3rd result returned was an error then hey, no problem, the 4th WU had already been sent with the other 3 and when the 4th result returned it usually agreed with the first 2 and so validation happened quickly. Now, when the 3rd result bombs then IT TAKES LONGER TO VALIDATE BECAUSE THE 4TH HAS NOT BEEN SENT AT THAT POINT. It's really VERY SIMPLE, JC. I don't think it can be explained in simpler terms. I hope you'll READ the above paragraph CAREFULLY and maybe even THINK ABOUT IT because the rest of us have and it makes perfect sense to us. If you continue to whine about this non-issue much longer then people are going to begin to think you're either very stupid or just cannot accept any change even if it's change for the better. What else could we think? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 12, 2006 5:21:20 AM] |

As far as the time estimates are concerned please see the discussion at:
----------------------------------------Beta test of improved completion time estimates available This solution provides 99,99999% accurate CPU times after first 5% crunching. As for the "i've got nothing to show"....when you start with BOINC it initially is often waiting to find 2 others that also crunch the same unit, so that it can be verified that 3 results, "The Quorum", are near equal. That can build up 30 / 40 CPU hours of "Pending Validation". The points will be awarded for sure. The fun is, if you stop a day, you will still see points coming your way. It does not bother me in the least, first things first, crunch to help eradicate deceases.....the points are just a game, which are enjoyable if you're in a team, so join one!

RickH, thanks for that information. I understand it now. I must admit to not reading these Boinc support threads as much as I should due to work constraints.
----------------------------------------Dagorath, your last paragraph ... appears to "speak" more about you than it does concerning my ignorance of these somewhat recent Boinc news. It was arrogant and rather flippant. To suggest that one (who you know nothing about) may be "stupid", was rather uncalled for. ![]() |

JC,
I know nothing about you? Wrong. I know from your posts that you've been whining about pending validations in 2 other threads as well. I also know that knowledgeable people here have explained the situation to you in those threads. I suggested you are stupid? Wrong. I stated, somewaht emphatically, that if you continue whining about nothing then people will begin to think you're stupid or resistant to change. I'll stop being what you call flippant and arrogant if you stop whining about pending validations. The position you occupy here as Captain of Andrax and Master Cruncher requires that you act responsibly. Newcomers listen when you speak and when you suggest something is wrong when it isn't then you tend to drive people away for the wrong reasons. Speak the truth and I will support you 100% no matter who it POs. Talk crap that isn't happening and I'll get "flippant and arrogant". |

Hey guys - let's chill, please.
This is a complicated issue. BOINC is fiendishly complicated itself - even I don't understand all the complexities, and I've studied the source code. This particular issue can be reduced to simple terms, but that doesn't mean there aren't all sorts of unexpected side effects. Crunching for points is a valid reason for being here, too. Ultimately, WCG are going to have to cater for the majority and soothe the extremists with soft words. |
