I've been running the protein folding project under Windows XP for about 4 days. When I look at process statistics (using CTRL_ALT_DEL) I get a CPU utilisation of only 50%. The list tells me that 49% of CPU time is used for the project, and 50% is System Idle time! How could I use my computer more effectively?

Andrew, the 50% usage simply means that you have a modern Intel processor that can run 2 threads (called hyperthreading) but normally you are just running a single thread for the WCGrid_Rosetta program. This is discussed in the following thread on the Forum: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=484
The actual efficiency of your CPU when running a single thread is much higher than 50%, this is just how Task Manager chooses to report the situation. |
