What the - !?

When I left for work, I was about 1.5%. When I got back it kept going "Loading NNNNN bytese of XXXXX from server" and starting over every 10 or 20 seconds. Now it seems stable and up to 0.3%, but my points still show 422 (and zero in my statistics). What gave?

sad Re: What the - !?

OK, I woke up and it is still doing it. Will someone PLEASE help me...I don't want to have to leave the project. It seems it stabalizes when I start doing something on the machine, though I sure can't do that 24/7! I also cannot seem to get an image anynore, even when CPU time goes into minutes. I just get a white screen. Somebody please help.

When did you join? The stats are updated once a day while the agent updates its points every time it connects to the server.

Because you have 422 points, the agent processed something, so it sounds like it's working.

Can you please provide some information to help with the other issues:

  • CPU type and speed
  • Amound of physical RAM
  • OS and service pack level
  • Whether paging is turned on/off. Size of paging file if turned on.
  • Amount of free disk space on the drive you installed the agent to.

Re: What the - !?

1 Athlon XP 2000+
2 512 MB
3 Windows XP SP2
4 I am not sure...how do I find this out? I used both 1GB and 10 GB in my profile, if that is what you mean.
5 46 GB free.
My first protein took 17 hours+ (I am not Spock, so I will not go back to check exact time). The second ran over 8 hours with 0.0 % done, so I followed someones advice and restarted with a third protein. That is when this started happening.

cool Re: What the - !?

Here is a possibility. The last post on this thread http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=692 by Dave Bell covers a problem noted by several people in earlier posts with assigning 10 GB disk space. He recommends assigning no more than 5 GB. For myself, I think the DEFAULT 1 GB (reported as 0.98 GB) is plenty.

Re: What the - !?

Hi tmazanec1.

You can check and set your paging file by right clicking your "My Computer" icon on the desktop and click on "Properties".
Click the "Advanced" tab.
Under "Performance", click "Settings".
Under "Advanced", click the "Change" button under "Virtual Memory".
Click the "Custom" radio button and change the settings to 1024 and 1024.
Click "Set".

You can use different sizes, but set both to the same number to insure that it's a static size. I wouldn't go below 1024 for your configuration.

Also, I left you a PM in the grid.org site. You can try the RAM Frequency idea there. It worked for me.

<edit>My config was similar to yours. (XP2200+, 512MB, XP Pro SP2). </edit>

If all else fails, remove the agent and reinstall it. Click the "Already A Member" radio button and enter your info. Give the new agent a unique device name and you should be ok.
