smile BoincView <<<< sweet!!

I have 4 machines on my home WiFi LAN, all crunching under BOINC. 2 are in my house and 2 are in my garage. My next door neighbor is also on my LAN and he agreed to crunch if I look after BOINC for him. What's the easy way to manage BOINC on all 5 computers? BoincView, yah!!

BoincView gathers all the details from the 5 BOINC installations on my LAN and shows all that info on 1 screen in my house. From there I can see the current status of each installation and perform all the managerial functions available from BOINC: suspend work, detach, view the message log, etc. I don't have to visit each machine individually to see what it's doing. Nice!

If you have a similar situation and need a solution then try BoincView. It's a free download here . It's an easy install, easy setup and it's rock solid here. Be sure to use the RPC scheme in BoincView, it works far better than the state file scheme.

Excelllent.....think BAM will be available soon(er or later) for WCG accounts - If that does the same thing as BOINCview.

PS, sharing with your neighbour? I hope you set up some 'house' rules as to what he does via your WIFI to the Internet. Remember its your IP address devilish

Re: BoincView <<<< sweet!!

Hi Sekerob,

BAM and BoincView do different things. BAM allows you to manage Device Profiles for several devices (computers) which might be attached to several different projects. With BAM you can manage all your Device Profiles on one website rather than logging in at several different project websites. It works with devices attached via BOINC, not UD.

BoincView is like BOINC's GUI (BOINC manager) where you can view a list of the WUs that particular device is working on or has in its work cache, the progress of the current WU, BOINC's message log, etc. You can suspend a WU, abort a WU, detach a device from a project, etc., but you can do that only for the device BOINC is running on. If you have 5 computers you have to go to each computer individually and use the BOINC manager on that computer.

BoincView, however, connects with all the computers running BOINC on your LAN, gets all the info from each of those computers and presents it all to you on 1 computer so you don't have to visit each computer individually. BoincView not only allows you to see all the info from the individual BOINC managers, it also also allows you to do all the things you can do in the BOINC manager on each computer.

My neighbor? Yes, we discussed the rules but he is the rose I am the devilish .

BOINC Manager will connect to other computers, too. It's fine if you just have a handful of computers to manage. BOINCView is useful because you can connect to all the other computers at the same time, which is great if you have dozens to handle.

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle. Yes, there it is on BOINC Manager's Advanced drop down menu. I've seen that a hundred times and ignored it, me and my one track mind.

Re: BoincView <<<< sweet!!

Sekerob,

I think I may have been looking at BAM through a tunnel. It may do many of the same things BoincView does. Frequently I have trouble interpreting what the experts say, sometimes they seem to speak a different language smile But what would we do without them?
