I'd like to invite some friends to join World Community Grid but I'd first like to know that the software will be safe on their computer.
----------------------------------------Personally I've had no problems whatsoever but I strongly believe that contributing to charity should be as painless as possible so I'm reluctant to invite anyone until I know the software is abundantly problem free. Could someone tell me please what proportion of people could expect to see any technical problems on their computer caused by downloading and using this software. |

Any figure we gave would be a guess at best.
Of the many new members every day, only a couple report problems here on the forums. The common problems are well documented and well understood. There are a few (rare) more complicated issues. Other problems are caused by the users themselves. So, in theory the prevalence of problems is negligible. In practice, if you recruit enough people, a handful of them will experience some kind of problem. On the other hand, remember that these problems are not dangerous. At worst, nothing will happen. Both grid agents are well tried, and have been stable for years. Nearly all problems are caused by conflicts with other software. |

Here is the list of known conflicts: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=1804
The main problem has been with the old McAfee VirusScan ver. 8.0. The new McAfee is alright with the UD client. Also, DEP enabled on the Athlon 64 can cause problems with the UD client. Otherwise, there are sometimes workarounds needed for particular corporate security practices. In general, the UD client is install and forget. The BOINC client offers a number of options for people who want options. |

Thanks for your help, I've made a start to inviting and no one has had any problems so far.
