You should not be running at 20% as far as I remember.

Unfortunatly not many people are running Win98 so help for this problem may be hard to find. Are you running Service Release #2 ? Better known as "Windows98-2" It is better than the first version of Windows 98.

Folgerspowered, the only reference I know of to running Rosetta at 20% is your own post:

Re: Rosetta Captures IE?

Rosetta was running your cpu at 98% NOT using 98% of your memory, BIG difference. Sometimes it will take a few seconds for the processor to find a stop point and return the system to you. If you find this is a problem then download "THREADMASTER" which will limit Rosetta to about 20%. Keep in mind that doing this will make your work unit take 5 times longer to complete. Also running that pretty folding picture takes away about 20% of the cpu.

[Grin] You haven’t drunk so much coffee that you have let THREADMASTER go on running, have you? [Really Big Grin]

Re: Windows 98 only using 20%

folgerspowered ,

Not sure what you are using to determione that CPU is running at 20% on your Win 98 system, but many (most?) system resource monitors on Win 98 ignore any "Idle" level processes when adding up the % in use. Rosetta is an "Idle" level process and so will not be counted. In reality the situation is probably that something on your PC is running at about 20% and Rosetta has the other 80%.

To confirm this theory, try a program such as TaskInfo available from http://www.iarsn.com

On my Win 98 machine, this shows a total cpu load of about 8%, but in the detailed process pane it shows Rosetta running at about 92% at "Idle" level.

As previous poster suggested, the other possibility is that you have another program runnning (like Threadmaster) which forcibly restricts the maximum percentage of CPU time that specific programs can take up.

I use Threadmaster on my Win XP laptop to help it run cooler with Rosetta running, but do not need it on my Win 98 machine.
