I installed several WCG Agents on my network the other day and a moment ago I checked their results. Whereas all clients running Windows 2000 Professional (2GHz) had returned theirs, it appeared the server running Windows 2003 Server (3Ghz) had not.
Upon further inspection the server was still executing it's first task, already 17 hours underway. (I take it all the tasks take roughly the same time so it should be completed in roughly six or seven hours like my other 3GHz pc.) Now, I believe the cause of the slow progress on the server is the fact that it is, logically configured as a server and not a workstation. I changed the CPU priority on the server (not in the taskmanager but in system properties) from backgroundservices to applications but this did not speed up the execution it seems (I restarted the client, I did not reboot however). Has anybody got any idea as to how speed things up on the server? Thank you. Also, on another note, I read about CPU load when running the WCG Agent which, on my systems is always indicated as 50% whereas I hear people talking of 100% is this a miscommunication or a difference in setup? |

In fact not all work units take the same time to execute so this is probably why you see a difference between two comparable machines.
Read other topics that explain the difference and that no WU are the same |

WU's differ alot in time to complete and their complexity.
And the application has such a low processing priority that absolutly anythig takes preference over it, such as data transfere from your various other machines, MS routing etc etc. I also only have 50% load, this is due to Intel 'hyper threading' as the application hasn't been coded for multiple CPU's, physical or simulated. |
