Re: Work not progressing

Hi Dharwish,
If it has gone for 24 hours without any increase in progress, then use Task Manager to kill it. Just assume that some strange fluctuation has switched a bit in your computer and try a different work unit. If this happens again, you will want to run the diagnostics in the 'Useful Utilities' thread at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2490 to check your computer.

Re: Work not progressing

Several things: long work units happen now and then. The cut-off isn't so close that the deadline is an issue. Some work units take a week or two.

Work units don't run linearly. What this means is, it may take hours for it to do the first 10%, then complete the next 10% in half an hour. Because of the algorithms used, it is impossible to tell in advance exactly how long each part will take. On average, though, it is possible to make predictions. So, when your work unit is almost complete, it is possible to make a better guess about the completion time than at the beginning.

Have patience. Just think of the massive score you will get for a massive work unit.
