Hi.In my new work unit, the work is not progressing. In the application widow the progress graph moves from left to right completely and then starts again from left to right but the work % is not incremented.Help me.The agent was running fine for the previous unit.
After downloading the WU, I tried using the UD Monitor but didnt like it so i removed it.Then I tried to run the agent and i got this prob. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the UD agent too but still the problem persists. Wat should I do now? |

Sometimes I have seen some puzzling behavior on the FAAH graph on my machine. For a while it would increment the percentage, then switch back to the original percentage. Eventually it got past that point. I suppose the first question to ask is: How many hours has this been going on?

Its not the FAAH project, its the HPF.Its been running at 1.1% for the past 8hrs 23mins.
----------------------------------------Thats right 8hrs 23mins. Wats happening with my UD agent? I run a Pentium3 700MHz system.Thats quite slow only but this is too much. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 5, 2006 2:33:07 AM] |

Hello Dharwish,
That IS too long. However, there is a possible explanation. Sometimes Rosetta runs into a fold configuration that never converges to a solution. There is an internal test in the program that eventually decides that convergence is taking too long. When it does, it returns results done up to that point to the server together with the information about the non-convergent structure and requests a new work unit. Give it a day and see if you get a new work unit. If not, and you are still at the same 1.1%, then use Task Manager to kill WCGGrid_Rosetta.exe. Lawrence |

If the internal test you mentioned decides that convergence takes too long and returns the results done, will I get the points for the CPU usage until that time. What if I kill the WU myself, will I still get points that way.

Yes, and no. Best to leave it, if you want your points and WCG to get their negative result. Failures are important, too.

Eventhough i run this project to do something in return for what this world has given me, the points i accumulate keeps me going fully motivated. The work % will not necessarily increment with each pass of the graph. I have seen workunits that take 20 passes before an increment. Fast ones will jump each time, but they are not all quick running workunits. As long as the lines keep moving, it is not frozen.

Ok I understand that it would take more passes of the graph for an increment but in that case definetly by the time the WU is complete the ime for the result to be returned would have expired and the result would be invalid.
What good would that do in putting in all the CPU cycles? |

If the internal test you mentioned decides that convergence takes too long and returns the results done, will I get the points for the CPU usage until that time. What if I kill the WU myself, will I still get points that way. As mentioned, it's likely having difficulty finding the proper fold for the structure. It tries very hard before giving up. On your machine, this might take a while...or it might get past it and continue on. If it decides it failed to converge, it will send back the structures it has already calculated and you will get the points for your CPU time invested. If you kill the workunit, you will get no points. Patience. There are some real toughies out there
