Re: Cannot attach client to project. Proxy problem?

All your logs indicate that it is a problem with your proxy. The normal stuff works, but when it tries to get data from secure.worldcommunitygrid.org, it fails.

As far as I know, SETI does not require a secure connection, so SETI working and WCG failing is entirely consistent with this.

You need to check your proxy and firewall settings. Try to connect again, then check the logs for errors. You may need to manually configure the proxy in the BOINC preferences. What proxy are you using?

Re: Cannot attach client to project. Proxy problem?

I used Ethereal to get some details and it looks that it is not so easy as I thought several minues ago. BOINC sometimes ignore authentication configuration in proxy setting. Two examples, first works fine, second was rejected by proxy. These are not WCG specific.

I miss authorization line in second request.

Proxy-Authorization: Basic cGV0cnNsYW46UHJhaGEyMzQ=

First request is when SIMAP boinc client sends data to server, OK. Second request were generated when I selected "update" on project page, FAILED as authentication is missing in proxy request.

Re: Cannot attach client to project. Proxy problem?

Thank you for the detailed information. I have looked a little closer, and it sounds like a proxy bug to me. BOINC shouldn't have to proxy authenticate with each request, merely with each connection. However, the BOINC folk are aware of the issue, and a fix is promised for a future release.

In the meantime, the suggested solution is to use a local proxy to forward to the network proxy with the correct authentication.

If you want to live on the wild side, I also understand that the fix has just been released to the alpha build. If you want to test it, I'm sure they will be grateful for the feedback. On the other hand, it's alpha...

Re: Cannot attach client to project. Proxy problem?

Actually - if you don't mind trying the test build you can acquire it at this URL:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php?dev=1

This is up to the 5.3.31 release at the time I write this and the upload proxy problem was believed fixed in the 5.3.27 release. If you can download the latest and test it that would be great - we can let them know if the problem continues after this point.

thanks everyone for their help in this thread!
