I got a new computer and later got a reminder that I hadn't been contributing as before. I then thought I picked Human Proteome Folding but it installed fightAIDS@home instead. How do I switch it to the one I want to help?
----------------------------------------I have now set it to just the Proteome at the "My Projects" page and it says it will do the change next time my computer communicates with the server ... which is when it gets done with the current work unit. Oh well. I do wish it would allow one to just dump its current work unit and restarts on the project you want it to work on. I dislike the lack of control over my own computer. ![]() [Edit 3 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 3, 2006 11:34:20 PM] |

With BOINC, you can only set your project choices at your username level, not at the device level. If you only have the one machine, that's nothing What I would suggest since you have already updated your My Project choice is to go to your BOINC Manager client, go to the Work tab, select one of the workunits listed (you may only have one) and click on the suspend button. If you have more that one, repeat until all are suspended. Then go to the Projects tab, select the WCG project, and click on the update button. Make sure that you don't see something like "Communication deferred" over in the Status column. If you do, just wait for that time to pass before clicking on the Update button. That should be no more than 10 minutes. Then go back to the Work tab, select the workunit that was being processed and click on the Resume button. You should see a new workunit get downloaded and it should be an HPF one. When the FAAH one is finished, BOINC will start on it. If you REALLY don't want to finish the FAAH WU, simply select it and click on the Abort button. You WON'T get any credit for your work so far on it. It's probably best to just let it finish. At least this way though, you'll know that you will get HPF WUs after that. |

Barring Human error, you do therefore have control over your own computer. Its your choice not to work on FAA, but dumping mistakenly downloaded workunits has a negative impact on a project, and I assume you would not want this ![]() |
