Hello, I cannot attach Boing client to the grid project on one machine behind http proxy. I guess that problem is with proxy code. I have to use http proxy with user/pass. Other clients (Seti@Home, Einstain) works well on that machine fine. Grid project uses something different during attach, account key is required and that points me to some problem with client code that ignores http proxy... I am asked for account key during attach and after that I receive message that attach failed and there is no message from the server.
Boing 5.2.13, WinXP. Details from log: 4/3/2006 20:16:22||request_reschedule_cpus: process exited |

I believe WCG uses SSL but you have 5.2.13 BOINC so that should be okay. Earlier levels of BOINC had problems/didn't support SSL. When you attach to the WCG project, you should be asked for the project URL and for your account key. Both should appear in your profile at My Grid-My Profile. Are you saying that when you supply both of these when attaching to the WCG project, you then get these errors?

I have two machines. Notebook and desktop. I cannot move desktop, it is behind proxy in the office and I failed to start grid on it (but SETI and EINSTEIN works fine there). I started grid on my notebook at home (transparent proxy there, no user/pass) but just now I have found that Grid client was unable to sent result to server when I was using proxy (office network). I am back at home, I disabled proxy and result was sent to the server and new task received. On the same notebook SETI has no problem it sends data even when network is behind proxy that is not transparent and that requires user/pass. In short, SETI works, GRID didn't and I guess that this is related to proxy.
I will repeat tomorow and I will add some log mesages when GRID tries to send data from office network. |

It could be that the proxy doesn't support SSL. As far as I know, SETI doesn't require a secure connection, but WCG does.

It could be that the proxy doesn't support SSL. As far as I know, SETI doesn't require a secure connection, but WCG does. How to test this? How to prove this? I am sure that I can access from my browser pages HTTPS://, so I guess that http PROXY allows secure connections. |

One more bad news for Boinc client. I tried to run native WCG clinet on the machine in the office and it was able to send result, proxy was not problem for Win WCG client. Only Boinc WCG client cannot overcome our proxy...

Hello knekos,
The next release of BOINC is supposed to have some changes (new ports) to fix some reported conflicts. But your description does not match up with any conflict reports I have heard of. For the moment, I guess that the UD client is the way to go. If the next BOINC update does not work, then we should look at this problem more carefully. Baffled shrug, Lawrence |

I know this is really out in left field but you may want to check you firewall. I couldn't help but notice that the message said "Attempting to receive data from...." during the upload. Not sure if this is from a new WU being downloaded or some sort of internal communication like "I got the packet, send me the next one". Maybe the firewall is blocking that reply/confirmation whatever?

I cannot change firewall setiing... And all facts I collected point to problem in WCG BOINC client.
- Native WCG clint can send data through firewall - SETI, etc BOINC clint can send data through firewall - WCG BOINC clint cannot send data through firewall; it shares proxy setting with SETI client that works. |
