On my one XP SP2 machine i have not been able to get the program to conenct to the grid. I have succesfully done this on two other machines. All firewalls are off and it is a brand new installation. In fact winrar, firefox and the world community grid are the only programs on it. However, it can successfully register a device and recieve 2k of data but then i get the message "Unable to connect to grid." I have uninstalled and reinstalled, no luck. Yesterday someone gave me the idea to use the grid.com program. The grid.com program connected to the cancer project but would not connect to the world community grid using the grid.com app. Are there certain requirements that the world community grid servers look for?

Dirk --
I had a similar problem with my second system until I noticed the following in the "Help me" thread of the "New Members" forum entry: "I had similar problem at first. I ended up modifing the Device Profile and decrease the storage space. After that, it runs ok. You might want to try it too." I found that I had set Storage at 10 Gb. I then reduced it to 1 Gb and that seems to have corrected the problem. Of course, that system then began working on the bad work units that have since been removed from the server, so it has not yet run one to completion. I hope to see one complete on it sometime today. Hope this helps. |

I'm running this on 8 different systems with all varying hardware. The only system I have seen this problem on is the one that is sub-par to the system requirements, only 96mb ram instead of the 128.
My assumption is that before downloading the task, the client checks to see if it is even going to be worth while. This would make sense because my p2 350 with 160mb is at a whopping 85% after 116 hours. This opposed to a dual 3.06 xeon server with 4 gigs of ram has been crankin them out like hotcakes. |

The reason you connected to Grid.org cancer and not the rosetta is that grid.org have set their minimum ram to run rosetta as 256, it was 128 but they changed it as 128 machines could not cope. I do not know what WGC has theirs set to.

I do only have 128 megs of ram installed in this machine which is acutally only reading as 112. World COmmunity gird probably has a higher requirement for ram. Does anyone know what the min requirement is?

On the Join Up page it lists 128 Mb RAM and 1 Gb Disk space as minimum requirements.

Well, I answered too quickly. On checking I found that a smaller drive will do. The official requirements are:
1) Intel Pentiumâ„¢ processor or equivalent 2) At least 128 MB RAM (with virtual memory enabled) 3) 600 MB Hard Disk Drive with at least 30 MB available for use 4) The ability to display 8-bit graphics at 800x600 resolution 5) An Internet connection with minimum 40 kb speed 6) Operating System: Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP |

The ram requirement mut be the problem since my system seems to be only reading 112. I will have to upgrade soon then i expected to. Thanks for the info and hopefully this really is the answer.
