question about "Total Run Time" on the statistics page

Hi everybody,

how is this value calculated? Is it just how long your computer has been working on the jobs? Or it depends on how fast your computer is and how many computers (devices) you actually have associated with your account?
Thank you.

Best, Renat.

Re: question about "Total Run Time" on the statistics page

Potsik --

Total Run Time is just as you said, how long your computers took to complete the work units you have returned.

Total run time does depend upon how many computers you have associated with your account. For example, I have two computers and both are running the World Community Grid 24 hours a day every day (or as we often say 24/7). I am credited 48 hours of run time on my account each day on average.

The speed of the computer will not affect Total Run Time. We do know that a faster PC will complete the same work unit sooner than a slow one. This is taken into consideration in the calculation of the points you are given as each work unit is completed. In general, you can expect to see more points per day on a faster computer than you would get on a slower one.

The time preparing the file and sending/receiving lots of results is not counted.

02/05/2006 0:007:04:09:34 4,282 17 containing one result from a slow computer and 16 from the fast ones.

As of partway through 2/9, the slow computer is about 40% complete on one HPF workunit and has not had to call in at all. The other 3 are all working on FA@H.

A slow multiday computer result can be computed very close to 24/7, since the machine only has to call in every few days. That also minimizes the slowness of dialup. It is especially noticeable on HPF/Rosetta with the large transfer files. FightAids@home has very tiny files, so this has less of an impact and the computers can get back to crunching quickly.

One fast computer is on one phone line, and the others are on another phone line and must dial in independently.
