Ok, after looking through my 'results status' i found a couple of things i dont like.
I found one result thats Invalid, and two Inconclusive..... Can anyone tell me what this means? I had a quick look on the WCG help pages, but didn't find anything to explain it. The Invalid job. ek050_07, Sent back on - 02/03/2006 07:13:22, CPU Time - 14.79, Claimed and Granted BOINC Credit - 289 / 146 The Inconclusive jobs. faah0175_ diversity0854_ x6189_ 03, Sent Back at 02/09/2006 06:01:01, CPU Time 5.32, Claimed and Granted BOINC Credit - 104 / 0 ek302_08, Sent Back on - 02/07/2006 07:20:34, CPU time - 7.45, Claimed and Granted BOINC Credit - 146 / 0 Thanks in advance. ![]() |

V_R,
The invalid result means that the information that you sent back to the server did not validate against the other workunit results that have come back from other members. You still recieve credit for this, as shown by the 146 points you received for ek050_07. Your two inconclusive results...these have not been validated yet. They are label inconclusive because the minimum amount of results needed to be returned back for validation has happened. This means that the quorum needed to validate a workunit has not been met. Usually this is caused by one or more results being invalid and not comparing to the other results. Hope this helps, -U |

This is interesting. If you sent back "results that did not validate against the other workunit results that have come back from other members", it implies that your results were incorrect. That makes me wonder why not? I suppose that it could have been caused by communications errors or disk errors or the occasional stray photon but it would concen me if I were you. I would keep a close eye on that machine for failures of some sort or other.
---------------------------------------- Perhaps it is one of those that will never show up again. Hopefully so.... even though it gave you points , it still did not help the cause. ![]() |

V_R,
The one invalid workunit means that your machine didn't compare with the rest of the results that were returned. But when i looked at the rest of your results, you have a larger percentage of results that are valid, so you machine looks like it's running fine. You can always test your machine for memory issues or run other system tests. Here is a link to some of the tools that mycrofth has posted. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2490 Hope this helps, -U |

So inconclusive really means that the project got enough results back for a quorum and should have been able to validate it under normal circumstances. However, enough of the results that came back proved to be invalid so this result can't really be validated.....yet. The implication being that it could still be at a future time?

I am confident my pc is working fine and stable. its on 24/7 and has never misbehaved. But thanks for the advice. I got some of those tools already and will run them to be sure. Thanks again for your time. I would keep a close eye on that machine for failures of some sort or other. I will, thank you.it still did not help the cause. Indeed, thats why i dont want it happening again. ![]() |

Correct, and it will be validated again, usually another workunit has to be sent out to prove that there was an invalid result. -U |

Okay, thanks! Essentially it's the grid computing equivalent of a "do-over" (no mulligans allowed)
