Re: HOT CONTEST: BitBender Tech versus HomeBrewers versus User Friendly

Eeeeexcellent!

What was your member count at the start of the month? And if you want a handicap (or head start) that could be arranged.

*drinks to your majority* -- oh wait, Team UF is still a minor; am I allowed to drink? But the Homebrewers aren't even 3 yet, and they're not letting mere age get in the way!

Re: HOT CONTEST: BitBender Tech versus HomeBrewers versus User Friendly

It hadn't changed for awhile. It was still 23. I can't remember when the last member joined, so I had to look. It was something like January 5. Hey, we only eat dead things, so this team is somewhat dead right now. Some fresh members would help, so they can start rotting away over here.

Attention! Carrion!

9 of our members sent zero yesterday. They need to start moving or we'll peck at them.

"So this guy walks up to check-in with a vulture under his arm. The airline duty manager comes up to him and says 'Sorry, we don't do jokes'."

I would post the scores again, but they'll only depress you all!

Don't worry, this is our first attempt at a competition, so it's all good learning experiences. Or has this been tried before?

Carrion luggage --- how many birds?

Has anyone pecked that bird without your knowledge?
How would I know?

Who knows? There are always attempts to suck up members into the same team, but at least this way they retain their individuality.

Who knows?
Thought you might, since you've been around so much longer than me (or BBT/HB).

I don't know whether there were any in the old days at grid.org or not.

The http://stats.free-dc.org is another way to group selected team statistics, especially across multiple projects.

Re: HOT CONTEST: BitBender Tech versus HomeBrewers versus User Friendly

Welcome to Vulture Central III. While it is tempting to make you 'turkeys' accountable for the entire month of February, that wouldn't be fair, would it?

Now it seems to me that the best way to compare performance is to also divide the number of people recruited by the number of days in the competition. This competition actually began for BBT and HB on February 2nd, which is when the announcement was first posted and when I began recruitment efforts and presume 'phicksus' did the same for BBT. UserFriendly decided they wanted to turn the clock back to February 1st to pick up the 10 recruits who had already joined them prior to the competition devilish and now VC3 joined on February 7th. So how about this formula where CM=current-members: (CM@end - CM@start) / (end - start) / CM@start = recruitment points. In plain English, we'll take the net change in current members divided by the days in the competition divided by the original number of members (to prorate for team size).

Using that formula, this is where our teams stand as of this time/date (02/07/2006 23:59:59 -- last statistics update):
BBT = (38 - 36) / 5 / 36 = 0.011 (that represents a gain of 2 members in 5 days)
HB = (39 - 33) / 5 / 33 = 0.036 (that represents a gain of 6 members in 5 days)
UF = (214 - 160) / 6 / 160 = 0.056 (that represents a gain of 54 members in 6 days)
VC3 = starting with 23 on 2/7, first results will post tomorrow.

We will then just plug in the formula for any more teams that join. Is that agreeable with each team?

Cheers.
