Hello zachf,
It certainly ought to, but I have never persnally confirmed this. In this mode, the WCG screen saver starts (and stops) the grid application running. So if you want to check this for yourself, see how far your task has progressed when you are ready to stop computing, then turn off your screen manually. Go away. Later, after there has been enough time for the screensaver to start, turn on your monitor and check the WCG progress again. If it has progressed, then you know for sure that it works. mycrofth |

Hi Zachf --
I was not sure what the answer was for your question, so I conducted an experiment. First of all, I am running Windows XP Home Edition on this computer and the maintenance level is current. I set the screen save to "World Community Grid" and the wait timer to 1 minute. I then went into the power settings and set "Turn off Monitor" to 2 minutes. With this all completed, I changed the World Community Grid Agent by checking "Run only as Screen Saver" and hit the apply button. After waiting a minute, the system went into Screen Saver mode and the graphic for a FightAids@Home came up. I watched the status bar change from 32.9% to 33.0% just before the timer popped to turn off the monitor. I let the system stay in this state for a full five minutes before I moved the mouse to wake it up. When it came back up, the agent indicated that it was paused as it was in screen saver mode. I then waited for it to go back into Screen Saver mode again. When it did return to Screen Saver, the status bar now showed the percent completion at 33.7%. From this, I would conclude that the application did continue to run in Screen Saver Mode even though the power settings caused the monitor to power itself off. So, the quick little answer to your question is that it does still run in screen saver mode when the monitor turns off. Best regards, |
