modded Xbox +BIONIC

Anyone have any success or heard anything related to WCG agent running on a modded Xbox running BIONIC + Linux?

Yeah sure it's only a 733MHz Celeron (it's not a P3, shut up) but a couple of these little babies could really help out. Heck I've got the agent running on a 350MHz P2 for crying out loud.

Re: modded Xbox +BIONIC

Shift_back, sorry for the delayed response, but I am not sure if anyone has been able to get BOINC to run on an XBOX system.

Having said that, if someone were able to get it installed, both HPF and FAAH require more memory than 64MB of RAM that comes default on the Xbox. Please see the System Requirements

Hope this helps.

Re: modded Xbox +BIONIC

fyi - Anandtech did a story on an Xbox Linux Cluster awhile back. Looks like this could have met the system requirements!

Cool!

I'm sure several thousand Xbox 360 geeks have/are still attempting to get linux running on it also. Haven't read of any successful attempts yet but they are methodically going down the long security list that MS put in place to hamper this type of use.

Re: modded Xbox +Boinc

to reply to your question
i am a total "newb" on linux
I moded the thing that i could launch linux from
the xbmc .
then it took me a couple of hours to figure out
how to install.
because there is like no info on the web ,
but you just have to follow linux instructions,
so it is simple wink
it can only run projects like:
-Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy
-Genome Comparison

Re: modded Xbox +Boinc

From a memory perspective they could and sure BOINC is relatively easily portable, but the science is not. That's the part that is highly sensitive to any CPU. Reality is, that they are only suitable and developed for the fairly uniform instruction sets of the x86 and the MAC. GC runs on BOINC Agent for Windows and Mac and Linux, HCMD phase I only on UD agent for windows.

cool Re: modded Xbox +BIONIC

Hello friends,

I just managed to attach our self-made X-Box cluster to WCG and they are quite happily working on the Genome comparison project.

Too bad I don't have a picture of the cluster, becaus imho it looks really cool (we have the LED jewel mod on all boxes and they're mounted in a cluster).

I'll try to have something up on our company webpage ASAP, but I just left for vacation. Perhaps sometime in august.
