Hi,
just wandering if the test algorithm we all run on our computers has been tested and validated? I could imagine to test known medicine against known deaseses. I tried to inform my self and found out that the algorithm is not brand new - but still I can imagine errors in it. Does anybody know if -from time to time - they check the grid by simulating known drugs? What drugs could that be? Thanks, Chris |

Hello vos_ck,
Validation is a tricky subject. Errors come in all sizes and shapes. Only the project scientists can tell you all the checks that they have run, are running or will run. But be assured that the scientific community is full of skeptics. Nobody gets to report significant results without at least a light clawing, so there will certainly be some validation. I suggest that you wait until the project scientists open a thread to discuss the project, then ask a direct question. mycrofth |

Hi mycrofth,
let me set this straight. I am no skeptic, I am becoming a scientist myself. I learned lots about errors that may occur and how to get rid of them. I am hoping to get some information and I am keen to help on this subject. Does anyone know if they need programmers on this project? I would volunteer. Are the scientist going to open a thread? We are pleased to announce that we have posted the first volume of “FightAIDS@Home News” on the www.FightAIDS@Home.org web site. To summarise, we have completed more than a quadrillion energy evaluations of candidate-drug/HIV protease complexes, which is half-way point in the current stage in the screening. Thanks for your help so far: we are getting mind-boggling amounts of results at this end, and are beginning to put the pieces of the jig-saw puzzle together. When we know more, we will release a new issue of “FightAIDS@Home News”. As far as validating the algorithm, there are hundreds of peer-reviewed articles on AutoDock in the scientific literature showing successful dockings and new discoveries. In the context of this project, we have included clinically-approved HIV protease inhibitors in our library of compounds, and so far, they have all scored near the top of the list of compounds when ranked by final docked energies.
