confused FAAH not working

I have signed up for both the Fight AIDS at Home and Human Protein projects, but the only project running is Human Protein. My computer matches or exceeds the requirements for the AIDS project. Can anyone give me a pointer about what I may need to do in order for this project to run?

Thanks
Linda

Re: FAAH not working

Hello Lboebinger,
If you have installed the World Community Grid United Devices client on Windows and if a check in 'My Grid' - 'My Projects' shows that you are signed up for all projects, then the only possibility that I can think of is that somehow you do not meet the requirements listed at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=minimumreq

Usually this is caused by a shortage of RAM. FAAH requires 250 MB, much more than the 120 MB required by HPF. Some computers come with 256 MB of RAM, but dedicate 16 MB or 32 MB to video, bringing them below the minimum requirement for FAAH. One way to check on this possibility is to go to the 'Useful Utilities' thread at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2490 and download a diagnostic program, such as Belarc Advisor.

Please keep us informed.

You got that right!

In addition, the computer is set to be 550MHz or faster for FA@H because they tend to run a bit longer. My Pentium III/500MHz is running HPF only. Two (soon to be three) other AMD systems are blasting out FA@H.

Usually this is caused by a shortage of RAM. FAAH requires 250 MB, much more than the 120 MB required by HPF. Some computers come with 256 MB of RAM, but dedicate 16 MB or 32 MB to video, bringing them below the minimum requirement for FAAH.
One can either install a cheap video card to use its own video memory and free up RAM to restore the 256 MB and/or buy another stick of memory (add 256 MB, 512 MB or 1 GB), which would improve the whole computer.

The first video card solution is easy. Many current graphic slots are AGP. New ones are optionally PCI-Express.

Memory can sometimes be finicky. The two sticks should coexist. Running memtest86+ will confirm good memory.
