Thread: Agent does not download new unit while in screensaver mode |

Hi! I have my agent set to run as a screensaver only. It works on he unit and functions as normal. However, once it has finished the unit, the screen changes from the rotating protein molecule to the world community logo.
it does not automatically download a new unit and start work on that. I have to go into options. deselect run as screensaver only. As soon as this happens, a new unit is downloaded. i then have to put it back into screensaver mode. any help would be appreciated.  Cheers! |

Is this effect seen with both the HIV and HPF projects or is it just one of them?

Do you have to enter a password when you come out of screensaver mode?

I'm only doing the HPF project and I do not enter a password to come out of screensaver mode. hope this helps! Have a great new year. |

mmmm this is a tricky one
----------------------------------------It's going to be something like permissions. There are 2 programs involved here the WCGrid_Rosseta.exe process and the UD.exe process. UD does the housekeeping functions and rosetta does the crunching. Then there's ud.scr the screen saver in your windows directory to complicate matters further. Do you have full admin rights to your PC? Did you install the World Community Grid yourself or was it installed by A N Other? Does this screen saver only start up after you have logged out of your PC? I'm sorry this is beginning to sound like an interogation  another thing to check would be the secondary logon service. I'm assuming this is Windows XP if you go start button -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services About 2/3 the way down you will see Secondary Logon Service next to a picture of a couple of cogs. This service should be Started and set to Automatic. If it is stopped start it up and set to automatic so that the next time you restart your PC this service will start again. Don't worry we'll get you going again even if it means reinstalling the agent Let us know how you get on Dave |

Does this screen saver only start up after you have logged out of your PC? No, it starts after the 5 min time is up. I'm sorry this is beginning to sound like an interogation no worries! i love the attention another thing to check would be the secondary logon service. Yes, this is set to start. ------------------ I do have more info, in that the screensaver might be a red herring. On the last unit I did, I had the program running as normal, screen saver option in the program was unchecked. when I came back, the screensaver was running. why? probably because, I had set the screensaver under windows display properties to run HPF. The unit was finished and the screensaver had the logo on, which means that it hadn't downloaded a new unit. when i got into the program, it wasn't downloading anything. i think i pressed a few buttons. can't remember what exactly. this started downloading the next unit. I'm pretty sure that download only started because of my intervention in some manner. I'm running the program as before to see if i can replicate the situation. cheers! |

Hi FungalAnomaly,
There is a lot that I do not know about screensaver mode. The screensaver is supposed to interact with the application to get the protein image information. When it cannot interact (for example, if something has stopped the application) then it shows the WCG icon as a default. But I do not know the specifics of what happens during the upload / download cycle. I hope David can figure this one out. mycrofth |

Could be a firewall problem, where all access in or out is not allowed when the screen saver is active. I know zonealarm has such an option.
