I downloaded the software so I can help find AIDS software.
I can get the software to work when I do the human project but when I set it so that my only project is the AIDS one my software pauses and seems unable to move on. At first I thought it must be due to firewalls and such but that wouldn't explain why one program runs and the other doesn;t. Have others had this problem? What's the solution? Help? |

Hello Scott Butki,
I suspect that you have run into the minimum requirements for each project: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=minimumreq The Human Proteome Folding project requires 120 MB of RAM, but AutoDock 4.0, the application program for FightAIDS@Home, requires at least 250 MB of RAM. And there are the Virtual Memory requirements to consider - 300 MB for FightAIDS@Home. If you are uncertain just what your computer has, go to the 'Useful Utilities' thread at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2490 and download Belarc Advisor. Ask any questions that you want to. We are here to help you. mycrofth |

also. some computers that say they have 256 MB RAM memory (more than 'required') STILL don't have enough RAM. you would have to add some RAM memory.
wcg should be more clear about this. |

Just recently I bought a 512 MB computer that very clearly stated, in all the documentation that came with it, that it only had 384 MB of system RAM since 128 MB was dedicated to graphics. But the mail order ad did not emphasize this. Belarc Advisor will tell you quite clearly how your system is set up.

Yep, with so many manufacturers using the shared memory setup it's definitely important to try and check that stuff out before you buy so you know what you're getting into. Also you might try doing a spyware scan as that was causing mine to constantly connect to the server and download new workunits. Different problem I know but the cause could still be the same. |

If your computer has an available AGP or PCI-express slot for a graphics card, it is a simple matter to buy one, put it in there, and move the monitor cable. Something on the order of a 128Mb graphics card would be indicated in that case.
----------------------------------------That would release the memory to use the original 512Mb. Even that amount is getting heavy use these days. The motherboard should have one or more extra memory slots, which could take another 512Mb or 1Gb. The extra memory would have to be a close match to the original definitely in speed and type and in brand if possible.
