confused Re: High Daily Points Increase

Just thought I'd post a quick update to my stats query.

Looks like I may have jumped the gun a tad blushing

Yesterdays total stats fell right back to pretty much the average I've seen since using the BOINC client. I had not realised quite how many BOINC result had been returned and not verified.

However, I'm averaging an awful lot more points with the BOINC client than the UD client. It maybe something to do with with the change in projects we're all working on (I moved to the BOINC client at about the same time as FAAI came on line), but it could mean the points multiplier neads a tweak.

Hope this maybe useful to you admin guys. (Might try and drag all my stats into a spreadsheet to have a closer look when I get the time.)

Points are just an indicator of the amount of work done and must be tuned to the environment that they are reporting into. For those people who are overly concerned with the points alone they should reflect work done vs other projects within the Boinc community and I do believe that is what we are dealing with here. If the points are too low, people will run the other Boinc projects and not WCG. If they are too high then there will be a stampeed here to run WCG Boinc. Now there are 3 other Proteins related projects which Boinc users have to choose from and of those 4 total projects WCG is in last place concerning the number of people participating and crunching WU's. A part of this could be the lack of a Boinc Looking website or the encouragement of the use of the UD Grid client rather than the Boinc Client. However, IF the tweeking results in a very good parity between the UD Client and Boinc Windows Client you will move the incentive for the points people to a differant place from where it is now. That movement would be into getting less points for work done and that will mean less desirability to do the science. crying
