devilish My AMD 64 3400 shows a processor speed of only 93 why?

I have a AMD 3000+ that has a processor speed of 191 that has been running for over a year now.

In the last week I have added a second computer, a AMD 64 3400. It started out for a day or two with a processor speed of 193 not hardly any better than my 3000+. Then I played Halo on the 3400 for about 30 min and the next download I got showed my processor at 93 and it has stayed at that level for the following 2 downloads, without any other applications running. The memory and storage have stayed the same.

I have played Halo on my 3000+ many times and its processor speed would drip to about 138 at times but move right back up after the completion of one download.

What is going on? I need more points. devilish

Any ideas?

Re: My AMD 64 3400 shows a processor speed of only 93 why?

The processor score is directly related to a benchmark performed at the start of each workunit. The benchmark runs at the lowest priority (same priority as the application), to get a sampling of how much CPU time your system can dedicate to the task.

If you are running any CPU intensive applications (games, compilers, photo editing, video/sound encoding, anti-virus scan, etc.) and the benchmark runs while these are running, your CPU score will drop way down.

The benchmark is very quick, so your CPU only has to be busy for a short time while the benchmark is run. e.g. you load up a demanding webpage with a Java applet or flash content just as the benchmark runs, you'll likely see your CPU score drop.

Re: My AMD 64 3400 shows a processor speed of only 93 why?

I just got another upload while nothing else was running and the processor is now at 238. It did take about 3 downloads before it came back up from 93. I had never seen such a big drop with my AMD 3000+ system that is running right beside my new AMD 64 3400. And my kids played games all the time on the lessor system.

I am running Windows Media Center 2005 on the AMD 64 3400 and only XP home on the 3000+.

But for now it is back up to speed, for now anyway.
