Re: WCG still running when different users logged in?

Another thing to try is the 'Scheduled Tasks' in the control panel.

It you set up a program to be scheduled, and go into the 'Schedule' tab in properies, you will see a drop down box titled: 'Scheule Task".

This drop down box has three options you might find usefull:
'At system startup', 'At logon', and 'When idle'.

Going by this, if you schedule the task using 'At System startup', it approximates running as a service. It still has the same drawback, you can not monitor what is happeneing.

Re: WCG still running when different users logged in?

Why don't you put a shortcut to UD.exe in the startup folder of each user of the PC ? confused

Or, better yet, put the UD.exe shortcut into C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup wink

But frankly speaking UD agent is way overdue for an update with Run As Service and Multiple CPU Support being the two most requested features.

in my attempts to script the install for deployment, I have found that WCG already includes everything you need to run as a service, its just not displayed by the executable

extracting the msi and passing it "UD_INSTALL_SERVICE=1" will install World Community Grid as a service

its still sorta a pain, because you have the stop the service, start the agent so you can register, and then start the service again, but its all there already

Re: WCG still running when different users logged in?

Wow! I've been offline for a family thing for the past few days and I loved reading all the posts. However, I think I've found another way. I thought that since my husband is online more often, the account should be running on his user profile. So I logged on as he and then installed WCG to his profile. It runs perfectly from what I cn see.

But the interesting part is that WCG runs on my user profile now, too. Apparently, it never uninstalled when I installed with the other user profile.

loWho'd've thunk?

Hello Red Queen,
Both you and your husband are running off the same WorldCommunityGrid directory. It is just that you each have individual Startup subdirectories, eachb with a shortcut to the WCG client.
