This is probably in the wrong forum, but there was no general grid agent one...
I was wondering, for general knowledge and for recruiting information purposes, how much extra power does a typical computer draw while running at 100% cpu process for the grid agent vs. having the normal 99.9% idle process all the time. A couple educated estimates would be nice: a) amount of extra power drawn from... lets say 1 month of running only the grid agent vs. 1 month of leaving the computer idling. More imporantly however is this, b) How much extra money does it cost on the electric bill per computer per month/year/or day for a computer running at 100% grid agent cpu usage vs. an idling computer vs. having the computer turned off. Some rough estimates would be nice, just don't throw random numbers out. I actually want to see if it is a legitimate excuse to say "i need to save money so i won't run my computer to do calculations." I am thinking that turning off a lightbulb at night will save the same amount of electricity that the computer uses. Thanks, Scruff P.S. If we get some good responses, we may want to put this as an "FYI" information piece. |

Admins please delete this thread if you get the chance, thanks. Our current thinking is that it is best to retain all threads, only deleting entire posts for extremely inflammatory disregard of the forum rules. We prefer to censor individual words, as in cens*red. We think this policy reduces paranoia. ![]() |
