Hi everyone,
At first, I was excited to learn about FightAIDS@Home and how I could participate by downloading the software. Much to my surprise and disappointment, my Windows XP operating system can only handle the Human Proteome Folding project because of the small memory requirement of at least 120 MB. FightAIDS@Home project is different and requires at least 250 MB of memory. AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! I am not a technical computer expert who wants to go through understanding the difference between virtual memory and the RAM memory that's stated on the system info data that comes with your computer (128 MB RAM for my PC). I have a headache trying to understand how to fix my computer memory so that it can run the FightAIDS@Home project. I still don't understand because I am not a computer expert. I just want to participate in the FightAIDS@Home project with no need to understand a lot of these technical computer problems that drive me crazy. In the end, FightAIDS@Home is not for me to use at this time. I still can't get it started even after reading the FAQs from the forums and help messages. I give up on this FightAIDS@Home project for now. What a disappointment. |

Hi
Is it not possible to add some ram to your computer???? You may say "why should I?".......but adding ram would not only enable you to run your project of choice but it would also boost your overall computer use. Ram is very cheap at the moment. If you post your system specs we could happily advise you.....or use the ram compatibility tool at Crucial website. Hope this helps. |

I'll echo vaio's suggestion. To do a small memory upgrade would be very cheap for you, and definitely increase computer performance. Your operating system alone uses a lot of that RAM.
----------------------------------------It's a very simple procedure so don't worry if you've not worked on computers before. Anyway, as vaio said, you have help here if you need it :) |

Who was the idiot that put XP on a 128MB PC ... sheesh, that must be slow.
Add more RAM, XP will thank you for 512 and you can then run anything. ![]() |

First of all, a Windows XP PC should have 512 MB RAM as a minimum. We have had it running on 256MB systems, but that really was way too slow.
----------------------------------------You should place some extra memory in your PC. That's the only way you can get the FAAH-project up and running. It also improves the speed of your system. It's very easy to do that yourself (or a handy colleague) when you know which type of RAM you need. I assume you're from Holland (nickname: edbruin), so I've seen the following prices for RAM-memory in NL: - 128 MB DDR PC2100 RAM € 9,95 - 512 MB DDR PC2100 RAM € 35,95 So the prices are really low, but of course I'm not sure if this is the right type of RAM. ![]() |
