I just installed this on 3 of my 7 computers at home that are running 24/7. My question is... how can I crunch faster? I am also running F@H which is set to crunch @ 100% CPU time. I would also like to give this new distributed project a fighting chance on my 3 test computers.
----------------------------------------Thanks Charles

Without overclocking your rigs there's not much you can do to make it run faster....
A few minor tweaks though may help. Regularly defrag your hard disc. Disable any unnecessary processes. Maxxing out on ram and setting hd allocation to 10gb (if it isn't already) will increase your points but it won't make work processing faster. |

Vaio.... Is this you?
----------------------------------------VAIO? Just wondering... I just started this project today and it's been sitting @ 0% for the last 7 hrs.

Ooh you found my portrait
Hmmm 0% after 7 hours sounds tricky. What sort of machine are you running on? Does the client appear to be doing anything? Activity on the graphical display? There are some larger units at present........my duron 800 is at 78% after 62 hours. I suppose it's possible that you have a unit with a really intensive beginning. If it doesn't move on in a few hours I would suggest dumping it as a duff unit and trying another one. |

All 3 test computers are AMD XP 1600s with 512M ram, 120G Hdds. Is there any way of changing the configuration so that the crunching is set higher? Like I said, F@H has a config. page to set the CPU %. It is currently set @ 100% (F@H). Just wondering...
----------------------------------------btw... know of any good teams to join here? I'm with 4peeps @ F@H team # 11286. and, if there is, how do I join?

Hi
----------------------------------------Well if nothing else major is running it should be coasting along anyway. I have run it happily with folding and sometimes with FaD. You may just have a rogue unit.....trouble is if you close it and start it again you may well be back at the beginning.....but if it's not progressing it may be worth a try. As to teams, there are lots of fine teams around....just browse the team threads and see if the type of folk from a particular team appeal to you. You would be most welcome to join my team..........Crunchers Inc. But there are plenty of other fine teams such as Andrax/Seychelles/get er done/BBT etc etc. Then there are the real big teams like MOT/Slashdot etc if that is of more appeal. Just find a team you fancy and click on a link in a team members sig...that should take you to their stats page where you can join. Or just go to the main stats page and browse thru the teams list. Click the Crunchers Inc link in my sig for an example. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 24, 2005 11:10:03 PM] |

Ha....I just remembered, I am not actually at my own team right now
Some of my team like to occasionally wander off to visit other teams...adds to the fun and helps boost new teams a lil as they get up to speed |

Yes, I am. I turned the CPU% on one of the rigs to try out & did the Ctrl+Alt+Del to check on the processes & the F@H is down to 59% & WCGrid is now running @ 38%... maybe this will do the trick.
----------------------------------------I'll check out Crunchers Inc. if I can get this project running. Thanks again. Charles

It may be easier just to alternate between projects rather than run the two simultaneously.
It will lessen the chance of any failed units for either project. |
