I have run into an issue which I did not forsee but is obvious now. I have five identical Windows 11 computers, and about four months ago, I installed BOINC on each and connected them to the World Community Grid (WCG). Unfortunately, the local computer names were all identical which caused a conflict on the WCG side where WUs would download but get aborted as soon as one of the other five connected to download work. I renamed all the computers to have unique names and this solved the issue. The computers are all now crunching without an issue except for a tiny problem: For whatever reason the last computer that I renamed still has the old name when I look under the "devices" page. Looking in the "results" section, this computer has the new name I gave it. Lastly, I am not able to see the stats for the 5 individual computers on external stats pages such as boincstats, only one of the computers is displayed.
I have tried to uninstall BOINC and reset the WCG project but the problem remains. Any thoughts on how to rectify this weird issue? |

Well, the initial mistake was to have identical host names in the first place. That should hae already set off a lot of alarm bells on your local network.
There have been issues in the past with host names not being properly/immediately being renamed, but with the identical host names, you have created an unusual situation, and there isn't a standard solution for it. Best suggestion I guess at this point is to see and wait if this problem is settling itself in a few days time... There is nothing that un/reinstall BOINC or restting the project can do in such a situation. The problem is on the serer side, and you can't fix that from your end this way. If anything, I suspect you made things worse this way... Ralf |
