I have two that should finish this afternoon (UK time) Sadly I don't think there is a mechanism for WCG to tell the BOINC client that the deadline has been extended so the manager still shows them as having gone over deadline. Not a massive issue in the grand scheme of things but I suspect some have aborted tasks not knowing the deadline has been extended. (On slower machines, even the extended deadline would not be enough.)

This morning, my 4 tasks are at about 98 hours and show 53% done. Still hanging in there.

Yeah, those BETA30_9800010 are REALLY sluggish. We have about 20 on a Xeon system and it is estimating 8 more days to complete.
The BETA30_9800030 resends are slow, but not nearly as slow as the BETA30_9800010. Right now, we have: BETA_BETA30_9800030_0273_2 BETA_BETA30_9800030_0369_2 BETA_BETA30_9800030_0409_4 BETA_BETA30_9800030_0425_3 BETA_BETA30_9800030_0452_2 BETA_BETA30_9800030_0459_2 BETA_BETA30_9800030_0460_2 BETA_BETA30_9800030_0825_3 BETA_BETA30_9800030_0839_4 BETA_BETA30_9800030_0960_3 BETA_BETA30_9800030_0990_3 BETA_BETA30_9800030_0991_3 BETA_BETA30_9800030_0995_3 BETA_BETA30_9800030_0996_3 They are consistent in run times (15-25% complete after 5 hours of running on a Ryzen 9 7950x). |

Yeah, those BETA30_9800010 are REALLY sluggish. We have about 20 on a Xeon system and it is estimating 8 more days to complete. Do you guys perhaps have any 9800010s from both of these workunits: <2> BETA_BETA30_9800010_0398_0 Fedora Linux User Aborted 2025-04-25T07:02:10 2025-04-25T16:30:12 As soon as mine will complete (in about 24 hours), my tasks (marked with an asterisk) will end up as 'Too Late', because the two 'No Reply' tasks aren't being replaced by sending out a new copy (replication=0) and they need a wingman to validate against (quorum=2). And so will yours, because mine will then already have been marked as 'Too Late'. (The meaning of 'Too Late' is: Too late to validate. 'Too Late' does NOT mean that your task passed the deadline.) Just was about to abort 4 Beta WUs that are progressing VERY slowly and thus passed their deadline per BOINC client shortly after midnight this morning (so about 8h ago). When checking those WUs on the Results page, to see what the wingman(s) are doing, it shows the as "In progress" for both of us, and the deadline shows now 5/2 instead of 4/29. So the extended deadline didn't propagate to the BOINC client in this case. So I decided to let them still run.Btw, these are BETA_BETA30_9800019 WUs.
Will see if I can check a couple other ones that I have direct control off before leaving the office for some onsite work again today. On a slightly different another host (unfortunately, offsite, with no remote access), 3 WUs of BETA_BETA30_9800030 (a _2, _3 and _4 each) all cr@apped out after 14h and returned status "Error" (like on wingmans) and a look at the error log, it shows an "Out of memory" error after a whole boatload of "INFO: WcgLearnLimit(1000000) reached...." error messages. 3 Betas on the Xeon based server that I previously mentioned are about 1/3 done, with a bit over 1 day still to go, but their deadline doesn't show as extended on the Results page (yet?). I will let those run for now as well, as it leaves 9 threads on that machine to keep crunching MCM1, which it does pretty nicely... And still hoping from a bit more communication from WCG towers what is going on/is planned for these Beta runs... Ralf |

All of the BETA_BETA30_9800010 series I had I ended up aborting as they were staying at .05% and not progressing. I have had other series run up to 60 hours and validate. They might be slow, but they kept progressing. Linux machine.

----------------------------------------This evening my status is: around 58% complete (up from 53% this morning) 110 hrs run time (up from 98 hr this morning) 27 hrs remaining (up from about 24 hrs this morning) I'm not sure that these will finish before the new end time of May 2. ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by tmedve at Apr 30, 2025 1:05:26 AM] |
