Hello everyone!
There is not one specific place (as discussed) to post about MAM Beta work issues. Hopefully, this can help simplify things (but it probably won't...). If you have stuck beta work, that is expected for some of the generations of work. Will your stuck work finish? Maybe. It seems that if it is stuck at 0.5% for days, it probably won't move. We have some work that is VERY slow but seems like it will complete after about 3 days on a very fast system. Here is a breakdown of the generations and what we have seen. We have seen a large amount of beta work units come our way so this is generated from a large data set (and NO, we do not run a script to ask for more work, we just process a large amount of work on a daily basis- nothing was done to receive more of these tasks). BETA30_9800000- Did not work BETA30_9800005- Validates but can process slowly BETA30_9800008- Validates, runs well BETA30_9800009- Validates BETA30_9800010- Did not work on slow systems, is taking days on fast systems BETA30_9800011- Did not work BETA30_9800014- Did not work BETA30_9800015- Did not work BETA30_9800016- Did not work BETA30_9800017- Did not work BETA30_9800018- Validates BETA30_9800019- In progress but not looking good BETA30_9800021- Validates BETA30_9800023- Did not work on slow systems, is taking days on fast systems BETA30_9800025- Did not work on slow systems, is taking days on fast systems, but does validate BETA30_9800026- Did not work BETA30_9800028- Validates BETA30_9800029- Validates BETA30_9800030- Completes but runs slowly Keep in mind, what you are seeing might be different from us, but this will tell you if what you are seeing is "normal" behavior for a given generation. We hope this helps someone about to post about their beta work unit(s) being stuck. |

Thanks for posting about this! I have 19 work units in the BETA30_9800016 group, all of which locked up at 0.5%. I suspended these until things get sorted out. These are the only beta work units I've received.

Thank you for starting this thread!
I would be helpful if someone from the Jurisica Lab/WCG team could instruct us on how to proceed with these stuck/poor progressing Beta WU's. For example, should we abort tasks stuck at 0.5% but continue to process Betas that progress, however slowly? Will we get credit for aborted WU's? Thank you in advance! |

BETA30_9800028- Validates Well, I have just checked on a system (12 thread Xeon server, with 64GB of RAM, not really heavily used otherwise currently) and I got early this morning 3 MEM Beta WUs out of series that you mentioned above.BETA30_9800029- Validates BETA30_9800030- Completes but runs slowly Keep in mind, what you are seeing might be different from us, but this will tell you if what you are seeing is "normal" behavior for a given generation. We hope this helps someone about to post about their beta work unit(s) being stuck. All three are either _3 or _4 resends, progress so far is about 3.5-4% within 2h, with a +2d remaining until deadline, which means that none of them is likely to finish with the 48h deadline set for these resends. This is one WU out of the BETA30_9800029 series (a _3) and two out of the BETA30_9800030 series (both _4). So yes, I am seeing something a bit different than you guys do, but at least for now, even though this is otherwise a relatively fast and reliable host, none of those WUs will even get a chance to validate.... I also have a BETA30_9800030 on Windows that is a _4. Those BETA30_9800029 and BETA30_9800030 tasks are taking a LONG time.

I am out of the office for a while now, so I can't check how far they have progressed. But what concerned me was less that they take a long time in general (fine for getting to the next badge LOL), but that they are taking THAT LONG that they won't finish before the deadline. That's waste of effort on both sides... |

That's waste of effort on both sides... Agreed.. I find it somewhat odd that these are the "new" generation after the initial beta wave. These won't work for most systems (finishing before the deadline). I don't think they are wanting these work units take this long. They probably(?) are simply not working as intended. Hopefully. |

I've got 4 9800010's filling my computer now for over 80 hours and showing 40 some percent done. Should I leave them working or cancel. Windows machine. Thanks.

I would suggest leaving then running if they are progressing, even slowly.
I don't think the work units stuck at 0.5% have a chance, the others might. |
