Thank you for the response; however, I will no longer be active in donating my processor time, as I find it very disconcerting that I have been essentially wasting my time, and will not waste one more moment on it. The point in my message was that reading news about a project is helpful once in awhile. I gave up on mark-time cancers at grid.org at the end of July and came over here to WCG, where I have submitted more than 900 results to a very smooth running operation. The statistics box may show slightly less, but I sent 6 more results this morning.Best regards, 1mck

This discussion has gotten a touch out of hand. Let me try to clear some things up. First of all the Grid.org UD agent and the WCG UD agent are essentially the same program. They cannot run on the same system without messing each other and the data up...causing a heck of a mess and destroying the data. So, they have to destroy each other when they are installed. There is nothing malicious or underhanded about the process. It is just the fact that they will walk all over each other if run together.
----------------------------------------Now the cancer issue at Gird.org. I quit Grid.org in December of last year because they were in fact wasting computer time as so indicated (statistics Here ). I very seriously doubt that they are still doing that. I suspect that, like someone else indicated, you have been running a worthwhile project, like HPF under the Grid.org banner. So, while by switching projects your points have been "lost" your contribution has not. For that, we all wish to thank you, congratulate you on your contribution and encourage you to continue to contribute here at WCG or on one of the other worthy projects. |

Unfortunately, their cancer problem at grid.org has not yet been resolved, which can be verified by reading the weekly read-only news reports. They ARE processing Rosetta mustard plant batches....same as here.

.... That link goes to the unofficial WCG site. ... Yes it does go to the UWCG site. The statistics are on the front page of that site. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by RT at Nov 23, 2005 5:13:01 PM] |

RT,
When I did install this program, it did say that it was uninstalling UD, but because they are essentially the same program, I thought that they combined with what I had. This, of course, was not the case. The work that I thought I was working on was cancer research for folding...something, or other. It had a graphic running, which looked really kool, and I had been up for over a year, and apparently I had done quite a bit of contributing with my 3ghz computer, and I don't mind donating the time while I'm at work. What I will not accept is that it was all for naught. What was I computing then? Baseball stats? I'm really put out by this, and I would appreciate it if someone could please clear this up for me. Best regards, 1mck |
