Thank you for the info Grumpy Swede. No, I stopped watching Eurovision Song Contest many years ago. I did like to watch it with friends when I was younger. Now I find it too messy, too much of everything, and I don't like the music/songs they perform nowadays. (not at all to the liking of most people in my generation)(Do you watch Eurovision? I love it, and will be watching all week) Fresh MCM WUs are flowing again ! [Edit 1 times, last edit by Grumpy Swede at May 11, 2025 10:36:28 PM] |

I'm not sure where to post this question, but here goes:
What is the criterion to define the Status or Outcome of a work unit as a No Reply? |

It is to fail to return a unit before the deadline. This doesn.t mean you can't return it later and receive credit. It means you then have to beat the replacement to return it. Mike |

ARP is flowing. I'm getting some, not enough to fill queues, but enough to keep 2 at a time running. I could run more.but these days I'm happy to have some.
----------------------------------------MCM is in "committed to other platforms" or Sahara mode. Dried up. Not flowing. Hope the techs will give the system a kick soon. note to add: just got a fresh MCM so maybe someone kicked the system into releasing fresh MCM note to add: back to Sahara. bfmorse,
That is a good question, as we haven't had an official update in a while. The system is doing better than I expected under the load of the contest. They have double the amount of MCM going out (when there isn't a "other platforms" issue). They have also have double the amount of ARP going out as well. I have NO official information. If it was me in charge though I'd prioritize keeping the system up to take advantage of the extra cycles working on MCM right now and any PR value that might be gained by having new people working on WCG. Work on the MAM code, so that once the contest is over if the database isn't too much of a mess from abandoned WUs, a new batch of beta WUs can go out at the end of the contest. I do hope they give us an official update soon. |

Anyone participate in other distributed computing projects, whether on BOINC or other platforms? I'll I've done is WCG with CPU Folding@home for 20 years. Started in the 1990s with Distributed.net and then United Devices/Grid.org (which then branched off into IBM WCG). During the COVID-19 fear period in 2020-2021ish, did a few months of F@h and Baker Lab Rosetta@home.
----------------------------------------My question is whether other projects have better communication in their forums from the scientists and grad students actually running the project vs. here at WCG. Back with the [albeit funded and corporate sponsored] IBM days, I politely proposed the idea that we get monthly updates from all the project teams, and it was really cool that they took that idea and implemented it. Was quite nice getting a tiny blurb from all the project teams every month. I guess even then, none of the scientists were active on the WCG forums but we got unofficial updates. Maybe I'm being entitled or maybe not, but I just like a bit more communication from the project leads. Otherwise I wonder if we're just taken for granted if years go by and it's silence lol. With tech communications and whatnot, it's REALLY appreciated and awesome when savas (and others) are able to shed some light on what happened, what they're doing, and any plans for future improvements. The nerdy technical details are great, but some might not care. I hope my expectations aren't too high or needy or whatever. I remember in 2003-2005 or so I was on the United Devices/grid.org forums, and the Human Proteome Folding project scientist was on the forums every day just being super enthusiastic about the science going on, and I learned a lot. That took a lot of his personal time I'm sure, so it spoiled me. But man, just a few crumbs every now and then from scientists show they aren't so cynical and jaded with the project!
