Hi! New here! I hope there is still a community out here for volunteers! The forums seem devoid of life....

I do that when no work for my primary project (CPDN) The other thing I do to get more work on a single machine is to run 2 or 3 more instances of BOINC using Virtual Box. I don't think I have ever gotten close to filling 16 real cores with ARP tasks all on the same instance of BOINC.

Hi! New here! I hope there is still a community out here for volunteers! The forums seem devoid of life.... Well, you certainly chose an off subforum to post in...In general, communication from Jurisica Lab/WCG is scare (to non-existent), but there are though regular posts in those subforums of actually active projects (currently only MCM1 and, kind of, ARP1). Worth noting the glibc>2.29 requirement. CPDN tasks have been rebuilt against a more recent version of glibc and also need this resulting in a small number of task crashes.

Worth noting the glibc>2.29 requirement. CPDN tasks have been rebuilt against a more recent version of glibc and also need this resulting in a small number of task crashes. The CPDN build was done against Ubuntu 20.04 and needs 2.29 or higher. That's quite an old target now, and most users are [probably] already running newer kernels than those current four or more years ago.Whilst we can't know exact proportions without access to detailed live WCG data about recent client activity, my personal experience of MCM1 WU history over the last 120 days (73398 WUs, so not a huge sample!) suggests that around 5% of work returned is from systems running a libc version less than 2.30. If that's a fair reflection of the overall situation, most folks should be o.k. "as is"... Whether all users of older Linux versions can (or will) upgrade is, of course, unknown. Interesting times approaching... Cheers - Al. |
