The World Community Grid has turned 20!

This November, we celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the World Community Grid (WCG), an initiative that has harnessed the idle computing power of volunteers worldwide to advance critical scientific research.

To celebrate our birthday, we decide to stop solving the current website problems until next year!! πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

Maybe the best thing, since it is the end of the year, is to make the decision to shutdown WCG in 2025. Get a single server and run MCM@home as a standalone project like many other BOINC projects. Probably would be a whole lot cheaper also. Get rid of all the complexity and stop continuously fighting this monstrosity. Delft can take back ARP1 and do the same thing.

normally here you'd give a speech about the bright future but ...

as the posters above me have expressed, that is not where we are.

Re: The World Community Grid has turned 20!

Congratulations to the World Community Grid. I am looking forward to the new projects and for new science updates.

I hope these server issues can be resolved soon. The website seems much faster today and daily returned MCM results have hit a recent high while daily returned ARP1 results have been dropping fast.

I don't agree about shutting down the WCG and building a MCM@home project, but maybe it would be simpler and useful to transition the WCG to the standard BOINC website/server software like most other BOINC projects? At least we'd get an updated forum, a server status page, a simpler and cleaner website with perhaps less overhead?

I completely agree with the above post. Work is getting done however at a slower rate.
Congratulations on turning 20. I am looking forward to the new project

Congratulations WCG and Krembil. Thanks for keeping the WCG going when IBM abandoned it and with the comparatively limited funding resources.

Re: The World Community Grid has turned 20!

20 - 2 (Krembil) = 18 years. Do you not even have RTC's in your PC's or what? Or maybe they turned off your MSF time signal at Anthorn like they do for maintenance during the summer in the UK and forgot to switch it back on. That's:

EIGHTEEN! (see post on ARP1 UPLOAD problems - assuming anyone is reading there persons Krembil...)

Re: The World Community Grid has turned 20!

Congratulations on 20 years! In terms of IT projects, this is a major milestone. I'm an original member. I ran on United Devices until they wrapped up, and moved over.

In 2022, IBM stopped supporting the platform, and the working budget has been greatly reduced. We all have to work within, and do the best we can with the budgets we have. There is not 7 day 24 hour support. It would be wise for those complaining to keep this in mind. If you want more, then take action & help support the project financially.

Many thanks to Krembil for keeping this worthwhile venture going.
