Re: Roject progress report?

Listen don't fret, can you imagine what the Seti crunchers are thinking?

Is it going to be this millenium or next!

Re: Roject progress report?

We will post overall project progress when we know it.

Keep in mind that there are several factors which currently prohibit us from knowing the overall progress:

  • Really, this is ISB's project. They're the ones that have all the data that will eventually be put onto the grid. Without knowing what this amount is, we can't gague our progress at all. However, we are in contact with ISB to determine what a rough estimate will be.
  • Remember that this is also a joint project with United Devices. The overall progress is a combination of their grid and our grid against the total data that has to be processed. We have to obtain their progress information as well.
  • Finally, we've just begun sending results back to ISB to verify and post-process. It's not simply a matter of sending individual workunit results back. Results from blocks of workunits make up a single result for a single protein. Both us and UD acquire blocks of proteins as we need them to keep our queues full. We must wait until an entire block of proteins are complete before sending them back to ISB for verification and post-processing. This is strictly for logistical reasons.

We should have this information soon. Patience.

Thanks Alther - we don't mind waiting when we know what's going on - your post definitely helped me understand why it's not as easy as you might think to get an overall project percent complete.

Thanks for keeping the communication lines going - that really goes a long way! applause

Thanks to everyone who contributed to providing this update. I am sure that it is particularly appreciated by myself and others from grid.org who had concerns about lack response and updates about that project. I am now convinced I made the correct choice coming over to WCG! I especially am looking forward to the new forum to be monitored by the ISB scientists!
