ARP1 has much bigger downloads/uploads than normal - over 100MB! When they restart the project everyone is trying to get as many units as they can so there is not enough bandwidth to satisfy everyone at once. However, after 10 days we have now reached a possition where just a few retries will download anything that is delayed - soon we will get smooth downloads. WCG was dumped by IBM who had plenty of equipment. Krembil took it on but they are the research arm of a hospital group so do not have the resources that IBM had. Mike |

WUs take so long to download (days!) that I have trouble finishing them in time. ARP is the worst, but it also affects MCM. Other BOINC projects have WUs that take at most minutes to download, some download even in seconds. Why not WCG? Servers are overloaded as ARP WUs are massive (say 100 megs per WU, which makes a significant bottleneck) along with a hard drive failure. See news thread here. |

Transfers are bogging down again. Not as responsive as yesterday Yup, what seemed to be promising yesterday is going all down the drain today. Have even MCM1 uploads stuck with several manual retries before I had to leave the office and will be gone all day today... Ralf |

Transfers are bogging down again. Not as responsive as yesterday Bogging is better than completely stopped, which is not saying much. Cheers

Uploads seem to be going for me now but I have one stuck download with
----------------------------------------Wed 13 Nov 2024 07:50:55 GMT | | [error] Can't create HTTP response output file projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ARP1_0008158_142_ARP1_0008158_input_d01 Last download for the task. It goes straight to project backoff without going through the active label when retry pending transfers is clicked. If it doesn't start moving by the time running tasks finish, I suspect I will need to abort. [Edit 1 times, last edit by catchercradle at Nov 13, 2024 7:57:54 AM] |

This error can happen when: Thanks, I did a search and none of the things I found looked relevant.the application mentioned is being actively scanned and blocked by anti virus. The AV may have flagged a warning as well, or is waiting for a response from the user about what to do with this file. there are permission problems after the BOINC Data directory was moved to another place and BOINC wasn't reinstalled to fix the permissions on the folder. This is a Linux box Ubuntu24.10 BOINC8.1.0 It has downloaded and run ten or more tasks without issue over the past few days. Data directory hasn't been moved since BOINC installed and the only AV I have is CLAMAV which I run occasionally. It hasn't been running since before the task started downloading. |

You know long it takes to upload 1.5GB of ARP1 file data? About 4 and a half hours at 25KBs !! That's the downside of wrangling the downloads. They become uploads. Almost 90 WUs waiting for upload this morning.

Almost 90 WUs waiting for upload this morning. If you are looking for advice and wanting less work units waiting to be transferred. Process less work [Edit 1 times, last edit by Speedy51 at Nov 15, 2024 8:50:01 PM] |
