Hello All,
I have several PC running Windows 10 that I use for running different BOINC Projects. Last week I set up four of them to run the ARP since then I have had 1 PC run and complete and upload a single dataset. My other PC's are all giving me the following message. Project: World Community Grid Progress: 0.000% Status: downloading Elapsed: --- Remaining: 22:52:53 Deadline: 11/10/2024 9:23:05 AM Application: African Rainfall Project 7.32 This has not changed in over 12 hours. Is the Site currently working and if so what do I need to do to get it to finish downloading the files? Mark Moss USA |

Is the Site currently working and if so what do I need to do to get it to finish downloading the files? The servers are working, but have nowhere NEAR enough juice to handle all the computational power volunteers have to offer. As far as you, the individual person, is concerned, your options are:

PappaSmurf, with the ARP project, it downloads/uploads several VERY LARGE files per work unit, and as the project has been in 'hiatus' for quite some considerable time, there's 'pent up enthusiasm' for it. Thus, there's a LOT of users trying to download (and, eventually, once their WU's have completed, upload) these HUGE FILES. Thus, as mentioned by imakuni, the WCG servers are currenlty struggling to distribute out all this data.
----------------------------------------What I would recommend, is to have a mix of projects (ARP is NOT RECOMMENDED to be run just as a 'sole project'), due to it's sheer demands on the systems. |

I have both ARP and MCM tasks enabled. But when the ARP download has stalled (Transfer tab), I am no longer able to get any more MCM tasks.
Yes gb009761 we need another BOINC project alongside WCG! Might it help to limit the number of ARP tasks in Projects > Device Profiles? https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewProfiles.do |

I had one out of sixteen ARP tasks running overnight. By hitting the retry button I managed to get it to finish uploading this morning and eventually get the rest to download. They should all finish by the deadline running two at a time alongside nine CPDN tasks.
Because of the amount of data involved, wouldn't it make more sense to have longer tasks like CPDN which run for a few days? There would be some increase in data for individual tasks but the overall data being sent to and from the project would be greatly reduced. |

One thing I have noticed is that there seems to be no problem with the system handling the uploads, but the downloads are a different matter. There's clearly a bottleneck, and sometimes I've checked (with BOINC Manager) and observed a download slog along, only to suddenly jump to or near completion. My off-the-cuff take is that the network itself isn't the bottleneck, it's in the server(s) handling the downloads. Load balancer issues and/or insufficient replicas, perhaps?

I am willing to provide computer power.
----------------------------------------However, I would like to have a serious team that has the necessary technical resources! I am considering leaving WCG to join other more serious projects. Since IBM left, the quality has been getting worse and worse. It shows a lack of respect towards the donors. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Maxime DUVINAGE at Nov 6, 2024 2:24:23 PM] |

Hello Maxime DUVINAGE, hello my friend,
I understand your unhappiness. But: Please do not leave our community. Mapping Cancer Markers is much more relieable than Africa climate/rainfall Much smaller Workunits with a relatively short runtime This project will for sure be good for you Please do not give up Best whishes Martin S |

----------------------------------------I understand how you feel. i shut down my computers last night for lack of work. When WCG was hosted by IBM there was rarely any downtime that was not scheduled. . Keep in mind IBM was a huge corporation that had access to much more resources and staff. Krembil is a small organization. The only reason i stay is the intermittent childhood cancer work. If it were not for that, i would commit to Folding@Home.
